I used to have a second home in the Smoky Mountains named Cat 5 because that would be my only home when a Cat 5 hit me here in Florida. Threads like this pain me because I know the feeling all to well. Trying to reason with hurricane season, there is no reasoning sometimes. Makes me want to sell everything and move away. Couple threads like this with path to enlightenment thread and I really do a lot of soul searching as to where I am at in life and what is really important to me.

Is your business at your home or are you employed elsewhere? I hope you are still able to work? Sorry for you for the floods.

Why would you stay? What do you think you are going to do?

No news for nearly a day. I hope things are OK. Hate to see something like this happen to a pelican - or anyone for that matter.

No doubt he lost power. Hopefully he and everyone is OK. People underestimate water and what is in it. It is no joke. There is absolutely no reason to stay, you can't do anything to stop it. Get what is important to you and leave.

Terribly sad, having lived through some terrible floods in Houston I can relate and my heart goes out to these people.
That is beautiful country though.

I wouldn't leave......there's a lot you can do by staying. Not so much when you're gone.
Hang in there Wolf!

Hoping you're somewhere safe and have saved the important stuff lonewolf.
Everything else can be replaced. If will get better again. |

I hear people say everything else can be replaced. That's not necessarily true.
Not trying to start an argument. To each their own. None of "my stuff" is replaceable...maybe yours is......

(meant I was hoping he saved the very important stuff. The impossible to replace stuff. I got those too. Fences and drywall can be replaced.)

No argument either but what "stuff" is more important that your life, or a family members life? Not a car, not a house not a Faberge egg. When the flood waters are rising what do you think you are going to do?

Insurance takes care of the material things. Flood waters give time to account for stuff that money does not buy. I am not in the OP shoes and don't have the full picture. That said I would not want to risk others safety to rescue me and rather bug out on my own terms.
So sad for lonewolf...hope the waters didn't rise enough to affect you. |

Yep...I'd bail. Humans are fragile and simply no match for mother nature. It's no contest, and if the human prevails, it's simply because she changed her mind (and women do that)...for better or worse....YMMV.

Whether to bail or not can hinge in your location and other factors. If your house is well situated on high ground, not vulnerable to the highest flood waters. Then being around to keep it secure in the aftermath is a plus.
But seriously risking life for stuff is nuts. Sure looking forward to an update from Mr Wolf. Cheers Richard |
