CanAm 2013
Has anyone started planning for the 2013 CanAm?
It's our Yank cousins turn to host, eh? So who is going to pick up the ball and run with it, or in Canadian, who's got the puck ? edit: departure info added Meet at the Issaquah XXX at 7:30 am on June 7th with a full tank of gas (stations nearby). We will leave promptly at 8:00 am and proceed to the Brewster, WA Chevron where we will meet up with Canadians coming south on US-97 and those coming via SR-20/153 over the North Cascades highway. For those coming over North Cascades highway: after passing through Twisp leave SR-20 and continue straight on SR-153 towards Pateros and the Columbia River then turn LEFT and proceed to the Brewster Chevron station. We'll meet at the Chevron station at approximately 12:30 pm. edit: hotel info added ***** HOTEL INFORMATION !!! ****** Here is the deal: We have 10 rooms reserved at this time for the following hotels. Been asking the same question............
I suspect someone will put their hand up. Hopefully....... I will be out of town in June so unable to attend this year. Damn!!! An option - some of us CDNs have a planning meeting next week. The prelim plans are to head south in May and September this year. Perhaps one of these can be used for the 2013 CanAm if needed - just a suggestion. Cheers.

Jason (Atomic) and I (Nuclear) are planning a route at this time. I've been recovering from cancer surgery and the weather is still a bit dicey for checking out some of the more remote obscure sections. The tentative dates are June 7,8 and 9. Probably won't have a firm plan until late April soonest.

A tentative route has been scoped out, but not totally checked out yet (due to weather). The start point would be Coeur d'Alene, ID, lunch/gas stop in Orofino, ID ending at Colfax, WA. Two features of the route would be, besides the scenery, the spiral highway out of Lewiston and the Mother of all spiral highways out of White Bird. The route would be about 360 miles and a little over 8 hours long.

Just a few more tweaks to the route instructions, and we'll be ready to do a checkout drive. The dates for the actual Can Am are still June 7, 8 and 9. Overnight stops will be Coeur d'Alene. ID and Pullman, WA. We'll set up motel discount rates when we do the checkout. Mileage looks to be about 1030 miles round trip from Bellevue. Once we have the route finalized we'll set up a couple of meet up points for people who don't wish to start in Bellevue.

UPDATE: The route instructions are complete and the route has been checked out (driven). A big landslide wiped out about 50% of the White Bird spiral highway, but thanks to a local farmer, it's been replaced with a route that may be considered more of a challenge. Your brakes better be in good working order! Road surfaces are all paved with no loose chip seal or dirt, and suitable for my lowered car.
Motel rates are being negotiated and will be posted here within the next several days. Remember the dates are June 7, 8, and 9. Current plan is to leave the Seattle/Bellevue area about 9:30 AM Friday. Alternate start points in Eastern Washington may possibly be worked out for the Canadians coming from the Eastern part of the Province. |

Sorry to disappoint you, but read the previous post. White Bird is pretty tame now. A new route promises to be even more challenging albeit a little slower.

Hey everyone I'm looking forward to coming on this trip with you boys and girls this year again! I found out recently about this page and called to make reservations at both La Quinta and Hilltop Inn but they can't find the group "CAN-AM" at either place so maybe that's because the "block" set aside has run out.
I have however made the reservations...La Quinta wasn't quite able to match the group rate but they promised to call once they figure things out. Hilltop did match the rate.... LETS DO THIS!!! Last edited by atomic80; 05-08-2013 at 04:37 AM.. |

I just called both hotels and they still have the reservation under Can-Am, so anyone calling in should not have an issue. BTW: 5 of the 10 rooms have been reserved.

No idea why they weren't able to find them when I called...maybe it's because I called at 430 am. LOL!
