Modifying LWB rear bumpers with SC flares

I have a '71 LWB that the PO added SC flares on the rear fenderwells and then used an SC rear bumper. I want to revert back to the standard LWB rear quarter bumpers but need to flare those bumpers to match the SC flared fenderwells. I have both the LWB rear quarter bumpers and the SC bumper to fenderwell flare extensions (see attached photo). Has anyone out there done this modification and have any tips to pass along before I attempt it?

This is a great idea. I would love to see what you end up doing. I currently have some LWB bumpers that have been poorly modified to fit SC flares but they are not even close. I'm going to have to start from scratch.

Did you find any pages in the forum that discuss using the SC bumpers to do this?

Thanks,

Rodney

I did this on my 72 hot rod...front and rear steel ST flares and then pie cut, shaped and welded the ends of each original steel bumper to flow into/match the flares. Not a quick job but I love having an all steel car.

jass,

I have nothing to add with your design idea (thought about doing it myself a few years back) and I am sure you may already know this, Porsche sells RS rear corner bumpers (metal) that match up to the SC flares very well. I backdated my SC and used then. Pricey but worth it.

I have made good progress fabricating these, so far they are coming out pretty well but still need some finishing touches

Unfortunately I did not take any interim pictures, sorry. I did use some metal self tapping screws to set the flare on the LWB bumper before welding and I did that with the bumper mounted on the car so I could be sure to align the bumper flare with the fender flare and that worked great.

Jass I see you highjacked my photo of my fender extensions for your post. Even if those parts were yours as you inferred they would not work on an early car. They also are not a matching pair .....

Re-read the post, he did not infer they were his, he is saying that he wants to take extensions like your pic and weld them onto long hood rear bumpers with modification. And that is what he ended up doing in the last post.
