Remove black paint from original bright trim?

My new to me 72 had its original bright trim painted black in the past. From the places its chipped off, the bright trim looks to be pretty good underneath. Its a driver level car and I don't want to have the bright trim redone, but I do want to remove the black paint.

What are your recommendations to remove the black paint without damaging the bright trim underneath?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it’s paint, could be anodized if trim is not original to the car. If it’s paint try stripper if you can find some. If not you will have to remove it manually using roloc pads or something similar.
Then sand with fine paper and polish.

It’s black paint over the original bright trim because it’s peeling up in some areas. I’m afraid of damaging the original finish if the stripper is too strong. Are the original trims just polished or are they clear anodized after being polished?

Don’t worry about stripper being too strong, they took the good stuff off the market. You’ll be lucky if it even works at all.

I have had some luck with citristrip for removing black paint off my bright trim pieces. Didn't hurt the trim at all, some times it took a few passes to get all the paint off though.

I used this and it worked great. For the stubborn spots I used some acetone.
