Lizard skin

Quick question to those that may know.

I currently have the interior stripped out of my 81SC coupe and after removing the batting and all of the glue (still in process), I need something to go back down for sound and thermal break. I decided on Lizard Skin, but wanted to know if anyone had experience and recommendations on how much it would take? Floors, rear seat bottom and back, rear quarters, and roof. Planning on doing inside of the doors also. Basically, everything that is not under the dash. Thanks in advance guys.

I have used it many times it's a very good product .
I think for a Porsche it's a little over kill to spray the hole inside of the car .
sound and feel is part of driving and owning a sports car and one of the best parts IMO .
as your motor is behind you the need for the heat coating would not be all that much so you would used about a Gal of it out of the 2 gal bucket . it covers about 19 SQR feet per gal.

sound coating will cover about 22 SQR feet you will used the 2 gal. bucket up on the floor pan and rear fire wall area .

I can't see a need for the heat coating on the floor pan as it's a rear engine car so there is no heat from the motor and exhaust running under the car .
even the sound /noise is coming from behind you .

we did a all steel 32 ford coupe with it 3 or 4 weeks ago and we when thru 4 gals of heat coating and 6 gals of sound coating on the hole inside of the car using the max mils they say you can use of the product .

I used it on my build but since it's not on the road yet, I cannot really tell you if it works. I do notice a distinct sound deadening effect when I drop a screw of crew driver on the floor. See posts #72 and #77 in:

Hope this helps.
cheers,
Johan

962 and Uwon,

Thanks for the advice guys. That is exactly what I wanted to know. I have always been an overkill kind of guy so you just saved me a few dollars. If I can ever get this project going again, I will have to post some pics and results.

I guess something I forgot to ask earlier was if there was still a need for a closed cell foam or additional thermal insulation pad for the firewall after the lizard skin, or does the spray coating work well enough that it is not needed? Not looking for a silent tomb, but stock or better would be nice.

And 962, I agree with the noise feedback of a sports car..... I freaking love this thing!

One more thing.... is the spray kit necessary, or will a cheapo harbor freight gun work just as well. I have seen advice to buy a cheap gun and just drill out the nozzle a bit, but since both of you have actually used the product, I will heed your recommendations. Thanks again.

the skin is about the same as stock maybe a little less but not much at all . if you want to knock down the DB's a little more let it dry and apply another coat of the sound coating .
we still use the padding were the rear package shelf is and the back of the rear seat area but it's more because of fitment of the rest of the parts there .
it kind of holds things so years down the road they don't sag from no support under them .

Good advice. Wouldn't have thought about a time related sag. Does this go for the rear quarters also? And what do you think about the gun? Cheap and disposable, or the one from the kit? Sorry for all of the questions. I could tear an engine apart and put it back together in a weekend, but body/interior work is all brand new to me.

ask all the questions you want ! I'm sure it benefits every one when many things get talked about .
the gun I bought from lizard skin for there products is a very good quality gun and works great . I have been using it for god knows how many years and times now .
the QTR interior panels tend not to sag over time like the rear package area will as the sun really does not get to that area .

Has anyone tried to apply Lizard Skin with a roller or brush?

If not is the viscosity such that it looks feasible?

Also, can it be painted over?
