Chris, All I can say is WOW. Your work is FANTASTIC........The car is Beautiful.
I wish I had more of that type of structural integrity than my simple 6 cyl conversion I just finished. Hope to see you on the road soon.

Herman:
My outlaw 356/930’s drive axel angle is unknown. The offset from the centerline of the transaxle to centerline of the wheel is 3-1/2”. Not a severe angle and handled easily by stock 930CV joints.
The trailing arms are made from 1.5 inch .120 wall chrome molly tubing and were formed using a Square D bender. Micro stub axles [manufactured by McKenzie’s and Kartek] are integrated/welded into the trailing arms. The micro stubs house the rear wheel bearings, facilitate any number of wheel lug patterns and aftermarket disc brakes assemblies.

Mark:
Thanks for your kind words.
I’ve looked at the photos you posted of your conversion – very well done.
With the 356/930 conversion, the fabricator did indeed do a lot to stiffen the engine/transmission/suspension support system. Basically, the vehicle was “attached” to its new propulsion mechanisms.
As you know by now, there are many ways to skin a 6cyl conversion and even more compromises as the project proceeds. It’s engineering as you go and by the seat of your pants for sure. One of the compromises in the 356/930 was solid mounting of the engine/trans. The good news is nothing moves (except the whole vehicle) when you stand on the throttle. The bad news is all engine/trans noise is directly transmitted into the body. Took over 100# of Dynamat to damp out the noise.
Hope your Porsche is on the road soon. Suspect you’ll find some bugs, (I’ve been debugging for a year now) fix em and have a great ride.
Regards,
Chris

It deserved it, really nice car.
Sorry I didn't take any pictures of your car at the show, I have a bunch, but maybe someone else has one.

My little project is almost complete. Building the engine, 66x93 twin plug MFI, and the transmission, 915 with short gears. I just can't wait to drive the thing, I'm going crazy, things take so long to get done..................

Hi Mark--Great job--who did the fuel tank?

MarKoBrow 09-23-2007 10:20 AM

Ditto ... on the fuel tank You made or had made??

Joe Bob 09-23-2007 10:22 AM

Probably a one off model...how many 356s have a need for a FI fuel return line?

356RS 09-23-2007 10:52 AM

Questions on fuel tank

Thanks for your questions.
The fuel tank is a Fuel Safe Fuel Cell inside an aluminum tank. I ordered this set up from Gary Emory / Emory Motorsports. It's made to fit the A and the cell inside is made for the MFI system. I made the extra long metal straps to duplicate the orignal A straps like from the Carrera or GT tanks.

Your Super 2700 Project

Mark:
Your outlaw has gone way beyond beyond. Verrrry nice. You seem to have thought of everything.
Think I will set fire to mine, file the insurance claim and have my carrier attempt to negotiate a purchase from you.
From Italy - Kind regards,
Chris
