This case, like the early 911 is a magnesium case not aluminum and had a coating on it that comes off in the industrial dishwashers.

Most knowing shops won't do them

I had the 356 done and by next morning it was showing white corrosion again.

Probably just a good steam cleaner would work or pressure washer?

Thanks Lorne m.

You might want to check, I am almost certain that the cases are #319 aluminum which a type of casting aluminum. I have also been told that the materials varied. You could have a Mag case or an alloy with magnesium in it.

Huh? The 911 case was aluminum from production start in 1964 into 1968. There were over 12000 of these cases made before the switch to magnesium. By about 1973 it was evident that the magnesium cases were not up to the task in the RSR and aluminum started coming back. I cannot recall any 356 case I owned that was magnesium.

This and anothe 356 case is the exact colour of the 911 85 cases that I have and I know are mag.

so why the dark colour on the 356 if it is Alum and why was there a coating on it similar to the 911 cases?

What are the numbers on the engine. That will help us date it.

Sorry to take so long to get back to everyone.

the engine serial #P32926
6130
546

and the is a RS on the top of the case

apparently both materials were used in building 356 cases and the mag case had a special coating on it which is my next question anyone know what was used?

thanks lorne M
