Definitely paint/powdercoat/cerakote them. If the seats absorb any moisture (an old 911 with moisture inside?), you'd be upset if that caused the frames to rust after all the work you've done to restore them.

I agree, Wont powdercoat though. Paint at best.
Just need to find paint that matches the color because I am annoying about that stuff.

Yet another update, who am I?

with the frames torn down and painted with primer, it gave me time to took into the recline/fold mech.

All of its there, some of it is in questionable shape being that its 45 plus years old.
With some careful disassembly this is what was found.
This is only one side. Unfortunately a bunch of it was corroded together. and the grease is essentially a solid at this point.

The rubber that was in there is also as expected in crap shape.
Not sure if any of these pieces are available. So if anyone knows let me know please.

Also on the list is making a tool to re load the spiral springs. Its not the first time I've needed to do this so that's low on the list of concerns.
This i almost think should be cerracoated?

I always forget where I left off.
With the thread its nice to re read and remind myself of how the car has progressed.

Last time I got to work on the car I only had a short time with it. however since I bought the car its had a bent parking brake handle. It drove me crazy. It rubbed the seat and I always felt like it was going to fail. Einmalig in Huntington had one as well as door pockets. I do think I paid too much for the parts but I get the impression that's sort of how it is, If you want the part you better be ready to pay.
Just a observation. But I got to change the parking brake. Of course this meant that It was easier to remove both seats and sit on my ass in the car to work on it.
Changing the handle was probably more work than I anticipated but sometimes, you don't think that it be like it is but it do. I am thrilled at a mostly working parking brake. I need to get the light to function correctly and that means it likely will have to come out again.

Around Christmas time before I went back to MN, actually the Day before.
I had a brake failure. Unfortunately it meant that it sprayed brake fluid all over the wheel well.
The S caliper went to PMB they had the pair for a few months since I was in 0 hurry and they took care of restoring it.
Today I am back in California trying to swap the S caliper back onto it.
Unfortunately I was short bleeder screws. Luckily I was able to source them locally.

For anyone who needs them the PN is Part#: 695-351-641-90-M33
Pelican even carries them however without any "this fits S calipers"
I also Bought the hardline from the caliper banjo to the strut. This was a bust as it did not fit even with careful re bending.
A trip to the auto parts store left me with line and i set to bending, however the flare tool i had sucked.
guess thats a wash for today.
I ordered better stuff and it will be here tomorrow.

I have plenty of other projects to get to work on but it would be nice to get this settled.
Hopefully by the end of the year I will have the 3.3 back together and in the car.
Then I can focus on getting the seats and suspension buttoned down. Then spend some more time driving the car and working on my 914.

Currently putting my 3.3 back together. It seems like since 2019 the availability of cyl base shims has dried up. Keep in mind this has a bore in mahle motorsport kit and needs a 105mm inner diameter for the shim.

I have the same ones, 105 inner by 1mm. I wound up reusing them.

Have you tried LN Engineering? Not sure what thickness you need but:

You may not need them. Do a test assembly of one cylinder on each side and measure the cleanse between the piston and head. I assembled my 3.2 long stroke engine without them and had .030" minimum clearance. Which is what I wanted anyway.

It turns out Walt at competition engineering was able to get me some. I definitely needed them though.

Hopefully Ill have some updates soon, been busy with helping friends with moving a shop, starting a new job and moving back to California for good.
I also have needed to catch up with working on my 951 and M3.
The 951 required the head to be removed to repair a bent valve due to the cam pulley bolt getting loose, no idea how that happened but it sucked butt.

So being back and able to return to working on my engine for the second time.
here I was.

Ultimately the car ran excellent other than its oil consumption.
The rings i was sold i was later told by that same vendor "that's not what you should have"

Fantastic. But with the power it did make it encouraged me to make the decision to buy a set of Carrillo rods.

I got the pistons and cylinders ready once again.
and assembled the heads to the cam towers. always satisfying to do.

Wound up finding the base gasket/shims I needed from wrightwood racing though Competition engineering. That was super helpful. I wound up needing more than I thought I would because the head was surfaced when they were checked out.

I have still been driving the car with the 2.8 in it, Occasionally i see some cool cars while out and about. Normally I would be frustrated with someone parking next to me when I went out of my way to be out of the way. but this was fine.

All the pistons and cylinders went on really smoothly. hopefully thats a good sign.

I had some serious confusion about mislabeled parts from the disassembly as far as the cams go but got that figured out. Originally when we disassembled the motor it had 3 bearing small bore so that was corrected and I had to make sure that the bearings all lined up with the cams I was reusing.

Again I should point out I am doing this in a working shop and they usually have interesting things in.
Has anyone seen one of these before? Its a 993 varioram intake manifold but in magnesium.

it belongs to a I think Mexico blue 993 RS with aerokit. really nice car.

Doing the best I can to keep the progress moving it was time to move onto timing chain alignment and timing the cams.

In the past I always had someone time the cams with me and as many know that means the person who knew how to do it would just wind up doing it.
this one I did myself and it was no big deal. everything timed smoothly and came in right at the 5mm it should have been.

The 41mm heat exhangers I had ordered came in. I do have some mild fitment issues with the cam housing to the exchanger but nothing a bit of metal working will not solve.

Also recieved my 15x6 for my 914 back from refinishing.
the 4 cyl from my 914 is tennitively sold so ill get to play musical chairs with my motors and hopefully wont have to do it any time soon.

The musical chairs of motors has begun.
Yesterday I pulled my 2.8L intended for my 914 out of the 911 and will be swapping things like Tin and oil cooler from one to the other.
its wild seeing all of my bad decisions right next to eachother.

Then the adventure of trying to get the 914 ready to accept the 911 motor.
the 911 will be getting some other things done in the meantime.

All the suspension bushings, and rear wheel bearings, i found they were loose.
well one was.
Ill also need to get a second muffler, anyone have any opinions on that.
I was considering the single outlet on the 911 but im not sure if it will have the sound I like.
