Read through the entire linked thread on replacing window seals and saw zero info pertaining to the OPs question. Yes it’s a good idea to replace seals and catch rust early, did front and back on mine and caught rust just in time on the front, but cracking paint in the outside gutter of the A pillar was not addressed. Both my coupes had the same issue, don’t remember on the 72 targa.

Bob,

You don't see a potential relationship between these two pictures? What is your thought about what is causing the paint to lift on the OP's prospective car?

Yes, that's the area. The car I am looking at has a longer crack which spread higher into the gutter and showing a white line crack. paint is original on the roof and I think its original on the pillar too. I will have to take a photo on Tuesday and have you guys to take a look for me.
Need to see the actual photo of the car.

After re-reading your post, I realized it's just a random pic you found online. You might wanna highlight that before folks here get all worked up !

I'll still say based on your description, it's just minor cracking of 30 yr old original paint.

Yes, I forgot to take a photo when I saw the car first time. But I’m going to inspect the car Tuesday, will update then.

It's a small crack in the paint in a very irregular spot.
I've seen this in other cars. Get too nitpicky and the car will be sold under you

very true. If there is no real concerns regarding rust in the area, a small crack won't bother me at all. it's a 30 years old car doesn't matter how you look at it. I just want to be sure since paying a lot of dough for it.

The paint is original and brittle and there may be cowl shake which causes the cracking. I had very minor surface rust in that area which was removed and treated. It did not compromise the A pillar. It certainly didn’t look like your cancer patient. drawing a conclusion from such a limited sample size is not conclusive evidence of cause and effect.
