Replacing engine-side fuel pressure line in MY80 SC

The engine-side fuel pressure line on my '80 SC is leaking and I have bought a replacement line (911 356 083 00) which I intend to change as soon as possible. Do you know if it can be changed without removing the engine/transmission? If so, is there any trick you know to make the job less painful?

Thanks!

WPO,

You can replace the fuel lines (delivery & return) connected to the fuel lines from the tunnel by making room for better access. With the transmission cross member in place, access to the fitting/s for the fuel line/s is next to impossible.

Support the transmission and remove the transmission cross member. With the transmission cross member out of the way, you could easily and conveniently reach the fitting/s for removal and installation.

Before you install the transmission cross member back, test run the FP and make sure the installation is good and not leaking. BTW, have you considered replacing the other old fuel lines in the tunnel?

I just finished replacing both of my tunnel lines. I did it without removing the engine or transmission. Just remove the rear transmission support mount per boyt911sc's comment above. I also left my steering mechanism in place, and have a bump steer kit there. It was difficult to route the new front end hoses over the steering mechanism, but shouldn't be as bad if you don't have the bump steer kit installed.

There are a lot of threads here on replacing these lines, although a lot of folks use lines made by Len, instead of the standard factory lines. Still, a lot of the principles are the same.

I finally got the fuel pressure line! It may seem obvious to others but I am not sure what's the exact route that the fuel line needs to take inside the engine compartment.

Would you mind posting a picture of the fuel line in the engine bay?

WPOZZZ,

Inspect the new fuel line and make sure it is the correct one. What is the part number? Post a picture of the fuel line and compare this new fuel line to the one on your car. This new line will connect to the main delivery fuel line coming out from the tunnel and end up at the fuel accumulator.

Are you aware which fuel line is the delivery or return line in the engine bay? Your first objective is understand how these fuel lines are connected and where the joints are located. Overcome your anxiety and you will be fine.

Hi Tony, the part number is 911 356 083 00. I know that it's the delivery line to the engine. Unfortunately my car has fuel tube that is not original and that makes my job harder at trying to guess how to install the rigid line. I know that with enough time I will sort it out but installation is pretty awkward and seeing a picture of how it should be installed would help me!

This is my new fuel line:

Hope this helps.....

Unfortunately I think it is next to impossible to install this w the engine & trans in place.

I have an alternative in E-85 Rated Hose if interested. It runs from the Tunnel directly up and to the Accumulator, eliminating the J Hose as well.

Thanks for the picture!

I've finally installed the fuel line without removing the engine or transmission. As per boyt911sc and OsoMoore advice, I removed the transmission carrier to get access to the line connection.

I installed the line downwards starting from the engine compartment.
