Question 81-84 Sport Seats: Lower Than Non-Sport Seats?

Pelicans,

My 82' SC is equipped with original non-Sport seats. I've heard that (81'-84') Sport seats provide a lower seating position as compared to the non-Sport due to the seat cushion being lower. About 1" lower or so.

Is this true?

TIA.

I went from 79 comfort seats to 81-84 sport seats and didn't notice any difference.
Maybe someone else can tell us for sure.

I think they are just a touch lower. I have a kicker sub that slid easily under the drivers seat with my comfort seats, I switched to 81-84 sport seats and now makes contact with the top of the enclosure.

The 81-84 thing is not true. You may be thinking aou the issue with 85 models where people were complaining about loss of headroom and porscehe fixed it a year later. Most people with the other years who complained about height needed to wear helmets for track days

In my 87 with comfort seats power driver's and manual passenger's, the power seat is 20 mm taller than the manual seat. The factory installs spacers (911.521.493.02) so the seats are level with one another.

It depends on the age of the seats and how much the springs, webbing and padding have been sat in. I made the switch from comfort to sport in my 83 and I definitely gained some headroom. I also had an upholsterer take apart my seat bottom and adjust the webbing and padding so I sat even a little lower. My brother has comfort seats in his 79, with newer covers and reworked padding and his seats sit higher for me. I much prefer the lower position. Point is, with a little work at the upholstery shop you can dial in whatever you want, and its a bit easier with the sport seats since the middle sections are separate.

Extremely helpful! I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the variance in height.

Also, cheers from another Chiffon SC owner!

I went from stock seats in my 82 to a set of used Recaros and I sit about an inch lower. No personal experience with factory sport seats, but have heard they sit lower.

What exact Recaro seat and what slider/bracket are you using? TIA.

I have '79 Sport seats - much the same. I altered the webbing/hemp straps or something, 25 years ago so I can't remember exactly. And that lowered it by an inch so I could fit in the car better while wearing a helmet.

Excellent. I'll try this as I would love to have an inch more headroom.

Sorry I can't remember the details of it, but haha it did work. I got the tip from someone on the PCA Potomac region's webisite before Pelican even got off the ground.

Always felt sport (model shown) seat an inch or slightly lower than comfort (shown). Am blaming this on sport cushions having a deeper/lower cut than comfort cushions where azz goes.

Not sure. These:

The sliders were on them when I got them, they seemed the same height as the stock sliders, just your butt sits lower in the seat compared to stock.

Wonderful, thank you. Those look like the Expert M in leather. Very nice seats!
