It looks like a pretty awesome car rally

Should I take a week off from work for this though? Los Angeles to Durham and back? Will I die? Will it be worth it? Is any truly memorable experience in life gained without considerable financial/physical/emotional hardship?

I've never received any emails either and I tried in years past as well. Can't say I've always looked daily in the Spam folder, but I certainly have this year and last.

Has anyone gone to past Luftgekults without a ticket and gotten in? Are there other events around the main attraction?

Do they turn people away at the gate that didn't pre buy tickets? If so WTH sort of car show is this? Seems like some elitist (expletive deleted)

You'll definitely need a ticket and only a select group of cars get in the show, however there's always a party in the parking lot with plenty of drool worthy cars that either weren't entered or didn't make it.

And it's not elitist, it's "curated" lol. Jeff Zwart and Pat spend days figuring out where all the cars will be placed to get "the shot". The photos from past events are amazing. It's pretty LA and we'll see how East Coast folks react to it.

What do you get for purchasing a ticket? Can you just go and mull around the streets.

The no windshield wiper and R compound tire canyon cars have had it rough on the other side of the rockies...

I understand it must be curated, of course it does...

BUT, if it's not en elitist affair, why has the specific venue/location yet to be named, tickets aren't available to enthusiasts like us, but the local hotels have already been booked...

It would be short sighted to not believe that those whom they want there don't already have all of this information.

IE. Yea, can you bring your 917 to our sweet car show? Sure, where and when? Oh, we can't tell you, but check the website and your spam folder for updates

Regardless of this nonsesne, I'll go, no ticket, and sleep in my car if need be... 10 hour ride from CT

Yep. I'm doing it from LA, just signed up this morning! Driving cross country is something you've gotta do. This really will be great because of cool little detours and mechanical support. The people you'll meet too will be awesome. I'll be shipping my car back (they are offering a discounted group rate on shipment too.)

And now, it's time to get the car ready!

Bicykiller: so you're going to rally across the country even without a ticket to the event or you know you'll get a ticket 'cause you're in the know?

Speaking from experience, it's just a highly anticipated event. That's why hotels are booking up. People just know it's gonna be rad. The venues are always somewhere spectacular too, not just a fairgrounds or a parking lot. And the cars on display are top notch and really well curated. Having said that, even when Luft 5 was "sold out" you could buy a ticket at the entrance. And sure there's always someone more in the know, but I wouldn't call it any more elitist than any other car group!

It's definitely not elitist. Regular people like me get in, along side the irreplaceable historically significant cars. For Luft5 they sent an email with the option to buy display tickets and 600 something tickets sold out immediately.

For Luft6 you had to apply in March to be on display in May. I never thought I'd be accepted but I think I was because I was spending days on the road in my 911 to be there....Not driving up the street from Hollywood.

If you know, you know and you've already booked your room. The specific location doesn't matter, you know what town and what day.

Even better this year, if your car isn't displayed they still have designated parking for those purchasing the Valkyrie Run pkgs. It's not just about the show, even more so this year. Its about the Porsche community and DRIVING your car.

You Florida boys need to come north and hit some twisties anyway!

So definitely not elitist but you have to be in the know... to know? I don't care about showing, I'll probably drive my Toyota truck down but would someone currently in the know kindly direct me to where I can buy these tickets?

I only know you should go because I've been. Not because I know anyone. I also know you should bring your car. Stop getting hung up on the "show." There will be all kinds of gatherings going on all weekend and probably the day after.

Neither Display tickets nor Pedestrian tickets are available yet. They only thing available right now is the Valkyrie Run's Rally Packs. As far as the show is concerned, this will only get you

Thanks for sharing your experience Mr. Merk. It does sound rad and worth the effort. Maybe even without a ticket to "the show".

And if the Instagram teaser pics on the bottom of Luftgekult's website -especially the short video of Bob Haro - is any indication that he will be there or any expansion of a BMX/Porsche theme I'm even more stoked!

Hoping to have a new Sunday BMX on my roof in time for Luft

You won't have any trouble getting at least pedestrian ticket, so long as you don't drag your feet.
