I’m been waiting for my spring to arrive since March, seems the postal service has some problems so keep that in mind.
These are sent from Germany via registered mail. When I ordered it Karsten replied via PP private message, shipped it out immediately and provided a Tracking number but tracking has not been updated by USPS, Deutsche Post or DHL since then, no movement or info whatsoever if it left Germany, sitting in US Customs or on a a sunken freighter in between.
Tracking query investigations can only come from the Sender not the Receiver.

In the meantime I haven’t heard from Karsten since last April, so let’s all hope he’s doing okay.

Made my own spring

I made my own today since Karsten appears to be MIA. I coiled some .093” music wire around a 6mm bolt. Then make the hoop around a 10mm bolt. The hook was done by bending a 90, then bending what’s left around the 6mm bolt. I pretty much guessed on all the dimensions, but it worked out. I have to say his spring works really well!

NO LOL - not gonna do that - It took me about an hour to make eyeballing all the dimensions, making the little coil jig.

I imagine Karsten is on holiday.. but if he stops I might consider it.

I made a spring as well, and I still have all my fingers. I had some free time and was too impatient to put in an order and wait. I offered to pay Karsten for his IP, since it was such an excellent idea. He just asked the I not start selling them. Good guy.

BTW Karsten's spring, Jamie Novak's ultimate shift rod bushing, and Rausch+Speigel black Delrin coupler bushings are the hot setup for the stock 915 shifter in my view.

@dtwa - Had no intention or aspirations of making and selling K's springs. I my opinion it's too much work for $50, but ok to make one for myself. I'm looking into buying a shift tube bushing from JP. I've already changed out the rear coupler with a stomski one which is great (although their coupler clamp doesn't work well tho. ended up using the stock clamp). I was previously using some early version of Rennshift's 915 shifter. Not the best IMO. The stock shifter with the K spring works so much better.

Rennshifter $700 vs Karsten spring $50. Hmmmm

I was an early adopter of the K spring. Been using it for over 3 years now. Best bang for the buck mod I’ve made.

If I ever sell my car (not likely) I may have to keep the spring in case they are NLA

Didn’t mean to imply anything. Just relating my interaction with Karsten. —Best, Dave

However, as all those unfortunately exceeded my budget, I was searching for something way cheaper and ended up with a simple spring:

This spring can be mounted in the stock shifter without big efforts or any changes to the stock setup itself (so can also be removed easily if needed).

As a result, the shifter remains per default in the position 3rd/4th gear plane. So if you want to use the first (or second) gear, you will need to push the shifter to the left - like in modern gearboxes.

If you are interested in getting one of those, just let me know and I'm happy to ship it over to you!

I just ordered a roll of spring steel, going to make a few up. These type of springs are nothing new, people have been using similiar setups on various cars throughout the years.
