Dust Covers and Wheel Centers

I have Fikse FM-10s on my widebody conversion and recently re-barreled them to get rid of the wheel spacers front and rear, but I am now running into interference with the front hub dust covers and the wheel center caps.

I seem to remember seeing a post a while back about someone shortening their dust covers, but I can't find it. Before I pull these off and start cutting, does anyone know how much clearance there is inside of those and if I can take off about 1/8" without causing other issues?

Thanks in advance. Here is a picture of the car just because threads with pics are better.

Thanks! She looks great in pictures but is definitely more of a driver project.

With the dust caps installed, scribe a line or use a marker to identify the inserted depth. Then remove the cap and you'll know how much excess material there is before you run out of cylindrical depth on the cap.

Why even put them on? I have been running 930 brakes in two G body based hot rods for over 20 years without covers. Over 250k miles all over Canada and U.S. and ten years on the track. Never any issues. And it may be my imagination, but the calibers and inside of the rims seem to stay cleaner longer.

Cheers,
Johan

The dust cap that I am talking about shortening is the one for the greased front hubs - you actually have it installed on your picture (I circled it in red)

We call that a “cap” up here in Canada.
