Windows stuck mirrors also inop - suggestions
Hi Folks,
The other day my after starting the car, went to lower the windows and nothing happened. Neither window moves with the switches on drivers side and neither does passenger window using passenger side switch. The mirrors are also inoperative on both sides. I may have opened the drivers door "all the way" to the end of the door check (which I never do) with a bit of force as car was parked downhill. Didn't have time to dive in too deep yet but fuses appear OK. What would you do next? I'm thinking: 1) double check fuses 2) check connectors at door switches for both windows and mirror (have to take some of the door apart for that) 3) check wiring to the door? how do you get at it? Area behind door hinge when door open seems unreachable 4) check window relay behind dash? Open to any suggestions/tips. Getting windows working is more urgent than mirrors. Car is a '88 targa Please and thank you!

You can pull the window switches and check their connectors without removing the door card. But, does the window switch work on the other door?

No - switches do not work on both doors. Both worked fine until now.

I would look closely at the fuse and if you have power at both end's then Check the relay behind the Fuel/oil level guage

Some progress: #1 Fuse was blown. New fuses blow when window switch is pressed "Down" - I I guess I'm looking at a short in the motor or wiring leading to it?
Sorry for the naive questions - I'm a mechanical engineer who has tried very hard to have as little to do with electricity as possible...

Short in wiring that passes thru the door from body ??? Just asking because I had an issue on the passenger side during my build.

Window.
Another possibility is that the door harness
has been pinched inside the window mechanism. pm me as needed. Gerry

Follow up:
1) Mirror issue was my own stupidity - forgot to plug harness back in when reassembling door a few months ago. Guess I never needed to adjust mirrors in the meantime. 2) Window issue was a short in the regulator motor. Got the motor off thanks to this awesome thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1049417-targa-window-motor-replacement.html then cleaned up motor, tested and re-installed. All good. Thanks for the help. Thanks
