#1

You mentioned the holes are filled, so that eliminates #3, and #2 looks very crude...not much design there...it's just a truncated cone, and looks very tacked on, like an afterthought.. If you're going to do something, don't make it look half a**ed. So I choose #1. Well, you did ask!

TimT and RallyJon have it right. I have the RUF mirrors on my 86 Targa. The only thing they are really good for is passing the safety inspection requirement of having side view mirrors.

(I'm looking for a pair of gurads red flags if anyone knows of any... )

For anyone that thinks they look dated, take a look at the new Toyota MR2, they have a direct copy of the flag mirror.
Kurt's absolutely right; the flag mirrors are the opposite of dated, the flag is fresh. Here's proof:

kinda looks like a 1982 Buick Lesabre, doesn't it?

Personally I can't stand the flag mirrors, my '82 Alfa Spider had them also and I think that they f' up the lines of the car. It was the style at the time, huge mirrors "updated" an old design. I have been lusting after those 993 race mirrors, (first picture, upper left), since I first saw that picture 2 years ago. An added attraction is that I have never seen them on a car, (I want to have the only set).

The 935 race mirrors don't work worth a dang as street mirrors, they look cool but don't show much view. The 993 race mirrors look as though they would be functional, and also look like they came from the factory, IMO.

Top left mirror looks like a cross between C2 mirrors and 996 mirrors. Not my cup of tea.

Top right is nice on the appropriate car. Otherwise too race car styled.

C2 mirror. Nice. If they weren't so expensive I'd buy a set.

Flag mirror. Basically ok, but look a bit dated.

Another option....
Full small rctangular race mirrors that have that small "wire" as a support post....look at recent formula cars for what I'm talking about...I think they would look real neat on a 911 chassis, but still rectangular to be useful.
