Poll: Which side mirrors would you choose?

I want to ditch the flag mirrors on my SC and update to a more modern look. I am looking to get the 993 Race Mirrors or the 935 Ruf type. Which mirrors would you choose?

I like the C2 mirrors as a direct bolt on replacement, but the best in my opinion are the RUF style ones. You would need to patch up the holes in the doors though.

I've got the Ruf/935 type. They look good but aren't much help backing up.

Hey Steve,
I like the ones in the 3rd pic. The 1st pic would be next choice. Can't wait to see it finished!!

Speaking for the bottomfeeders of the world (all-together now)

"Are you selling your old flag mirrors?"
Let me know...

I know a number of porsche owners dislike the flag mirrors and want to upgrade to a more "current" look. Excellence this month even does the upgrade on a 944. Personally I like the flag mirrors and don't think they look dated at all.For anyone that thinks they look dated, take a look at the new Toyota MR2, they have a direct copy of the flag mirror. Just my opinion.

Toyota MR2 eh? Seems like reason enough to change them out.

If that's the case you might want to forget #1 and #3 then because they look like generic import mirrors to me.

The original flag mirrors aren't quite as aero dynamic and if not protected properly, probably catches more rock chips. If you are going to fill the holes anyways and have your doors repainted go with 2 or 1. Option 3 does allow you to reuse the existing holes in your door. What the heck, it's only $$$. I'm trying to stay period correct myself, so I stayed with the flag style.

#1, then #3

I'd keep the standard flags in lieu of the one on the right, blecch! (looks like a plastic funnel)

For me the only reason to change would be for aerodynamic reasons. I would love to have the ability to do the kind of thing that Jack O did. Assuming I had a healthy budget I would spend time and money on aerodynamics. Not for any reason other than just my own personal fun.

Personally I also like the idea of the rubber lip under the car in front of the engine that Ruf uses.

You cant see worth a c*ap out of the 935 mirrors, the 935's didnt have to worry to much about being overtaken though..

options 1 and 3 are the remainder. Personally I like #3 better.

I believe the mounting points on the door mounted mirrors are different on the driver / passenger sides. When you use the window mounted mirrors, you may lose the angle or the purpose why Porsche positioned these intentionally. If you're going for aerodynamic reasons, I would go for the Ruf style. You're already patching up your holes so your choice would be #1 or #2, right?

The reason for the different mounting of the stock mirrors is...

mount the driver's side as far forward on the door as you can to minimize the angle you have to look or turn your head to see the mirror, but then if you mount the other in the same place the A pillar and vent/quarter window is in the way and you can't see the mirror.

That would seem to point to the driver's side maybe not being as good, but I think it would be ok.

I voted for the factory C2 mirrors because they will allow you to see best in traffic. The 935 mirrors are just too small to be of much use. Me, I'm sticking with the flags until they get knocked off or stolen. Why go to the expense?
