Throttle ball socket removal - engine compartment

My throttle is still sticking! Are all the ball sockets “unnumbered“ diagram Interchangeable... I only found one part number, the one circled purple. Can I use that same ball socket that would connect at purple circled in diagram #3 and in photos?
If so how do I disconnect to replace? Just pull??! I do not see or feel a clip holding ball and socket together.

No you can't "just pull it" there's a clip with a pin you have to remove. But the fingers yikes!

Will the ball socket, new part shown in picture which fits under the pedal the same part (interchangeable) as the compartment as well? The one in the engine compartment is the one I’m looking to change. And the part I bought it for the pedals cluster.

The bottom one is on a later rod that has a curved part over the axle and is a bit shorter. The other rods are the straight style. (Or the right one, depending if the pic stays sideways)

I’m wondering if the ball sockets are interchangeable regardless of the which rod. ...

Screwdriver and twist the blade. That's it. It will pop off. There is a circlip in the ball joint and it rusts over time, which makes the joint less tight usually. Lube the ball before popping the cup part back on. You'll need a pliers to pull the two pieces together.

And yes, the part under the pedal and the part near the transmission are the same (at least on my '73S). Right hand thread. Part is N0155213, available everywhere in zinc chromate, including your dealer.

It will fit the red circled part in your first figure. But I am not an expert on things later than the SWB and LWB cars, so I can't comment on anything in the engine compartment of your car.

It's a 5 mm right hand thread if that helps.

Some of the ball joints have a hole in their head, through which a clip can be inserted. This is a belt and suspenders approach, because (at least when new) the clip inside the cup (not intended to be removed or replaced) normally is all that is needed to keep the cup on the ball. Racers are especially prone to want the cup part with the hole for a clip. You can see the clips in some of the parts diagrams.

If you have one, you need to pull it to pry the cup off the ball. But you can tell by looking and feeling if there is a clip there or not.

I use a cats paw to pop off the cup. Per Heidi & Frannie's garage, a 10mm open end works

Mine was stuck because the ball end had grooves worn into it due to grit and lack of lube. After you pop it off, inspect the ball end and make sure it doesnt have any sharp edges on it. I took the whole bellcrank off and polished the ball a bit on a buffing wheel, reinstalled, cleaned and relubed the joint, reinstalled the lock wire on the socket end and its been good as new.

Derp, I was referring to the bellcrank next to the gearbox. That one was much easier!

Same ball/socket lube concept applies though...

Does anyone have a source for the ball?

Normally it is pressed/riveted into the associated bracket.

I would prefer one with a threaded stud for custom brackets etc.

One with an unmashed rivet would be good too!
