Wire gauge and where to buy

I’m looking to clean up my wire harness: i have a few questions. Wire gauge for common ground wires, good source to buy solid and multi color wire rolls.

Thanks in advance

14 AWG is the minimum size you should use. There are a lot places to get wire. McMaster, Wirecare, CeElectric and Prowire are a few sources. I have been using the milspec from McMaster. It closely approximates the OG. It is pricey though.

I’ll look them up, thanks Chris.

I don’t think you need #14 in all applications. I fuse/size the wires depending on the load.
I bought a used harness to do some projects on my ‘87. Has worked out great.

These guys usually have a good selection of wire and will cut to smaller lengths.
Drop downs show color combinations.
PVC Wires

Or, Hit me up with colors, gauge and lengths you are looking for. All of my wires are spiral striped.

IMHO 18 is too small and 12 is too big. That leaves 16 and 14. I bought 14 and notice it is very close to original. There is a benefit in using single size regardless of the circuits requirements.

In my car I notice three sizes, extra large, large, and medium. The extra large is limited to the battery and starter. The large feeds the fuse block and keyswitch. The medium is everything else. It would be interesting to know what those are in metric and AWG equivalent.
