nothing to do wiv porkys but i need some advice from some usa heads
im coming to the usa for three weeks in xmas and rather than hiring a silly little geo wagon to drive i thought id buy a wreck and sell it when i go but whats the deal with insurance and what about registering it? can anyone help??

You have to pay sales tax (6-9% depending on state/county), plus registration fees. This varies from near nothing to a bunch depending on the state, and in some states depending on the value of the vehicle. Lots of data on this on the state website. You are required to have proof of insurance - minimum is personal liability coverage. Finally, since you are looking for a beater, you'd be driving a car that might blow up at any given time - a poor way to spend a holiday.
There are some companies that specialize in long-term rentals at attractive rates, such as Enterprise or Rent-a-wreck.
