ok to post CAD files for laser cut stuff here?
Not exactly 3D printing, but I have made some laser cut metal parts (2D so far).
Ok to post CAD files for laser cut stuff as well? Thx |
Just to ask............. is it possible to make a 3D knob for a window crank on our early NON electric window cars ?
I've gone through a few knobs over the years and they always seem to split down the middle......... sorry for the bonehead question but i am looking for options...... Pre |
Sure, one just has to design it in CAD. There are lots of materials to chose from to get it printed that would work and look good. You dont have to print with a home printer. There are lots of high end places that would print the part with great results.
But it seems like it would make more sense just to buy the aluminum ones like this https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/RENDH01BLK.htm?pn=REN-DH01-BLK&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtsCgBhDEARIsAE7RYh2DQhoFYUx86VBg kekOG49yvohf4vVzNkLPkDXpS3wlPfXD9c6d3fkaAv_aEALw_w cB |
i wonder if anyone has already made a window knob......

We make Aluminum Knobs that would work with stock handles if some one wanted some we could add them to our Website, it was one of the reasons I designed nee window cranks in the 1st place since mine always were broken!

Bought a high beam switch that was melted. Tore it apart and printed the tiny tab that switches the power from high to low beams. A little sanding and I have working lights! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1678851199.jpg

Brasch.... do you have a pix? Cost?
|
Lazorj.... thats just awesome! I have a melted switch if someone needs one.

I'd like a couple of parts, if the 3D printing boffins on this thread are so inclined.
In my 1989, I've gone full manual in the doors (locks, windows, mirrors) and I won't be using the rotary lock knob. I'd like to replace the featureless (flush when locked) door lock knob pins with an earlier style knob / pin that will allow me to more traditionally lock & unlock the door from inside the car... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679233031.jpg Next I'd like to replace the AC bowtie "vent" with more of a nozzle that directs air towards the driver. I have yet to try it, but one Pelican suggested taking a plastic bottle of Newman's Own salad dressing, cutting off the bottom at an angle, painting it black and screwing it in / affixing it to the bowtie vent opening. I'd like to have something nicer than that. |
Get me measurements on the door lock things and I’ll get you a file; I’m doing this myself and was going to turn some on my lathe but I’m just as happy to 3D print some.
|
Having printed many parts for my car I feel that printing them to help out someone would be great but the time it takes to create a design or drawing and print one makes no sense if you plan to sell them. I have posted some plastic CIS metal fuel line clips which I printed and no one was really interested.

It probably was that no one that saw your post needed those clips at that moment. There are plenty of small parts that we each need…. I love the idea of this thread being a place to list the files. Once I get adept at making the files I will offer my files here for free too. |
If the part can be purchased from Porsche or pretty much anywhere else, then its really not worth the time and effort to model it and print it. It usually takes a few iterations to get the print exactly how you want it.
If someone wants an unavailable part modeled or new design to be printed then they need to post some pics or drawings with all 3 views of the item and the measurements. Every once in a while I'm looking for something to do, for fun so doing a little modeling would be just the thing. |
Something like the door button is really easy to do in CAD. Making it the right size requires a bunch of measurements. I would assume there is some threaded hole on the bottom as well, so you need that data as well.
You could make it in ABS plastic with a FDM printer, but it would be much better using a resin printer. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679243851.jpg |
a few items to post
1. Seat rails for Recaro Classic LS seats, but I moved the slider mounting holes back 2 inches for taller people. Seat belt mounts are integrated. This fits F-Bodies only I believe. I have other versions too for keeping the mount holes in the normal position.

This is just the plate and holes the P313 mounts on: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679269201.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679269201.png 3. Similar to @showdown 's 915 shift fork jig. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679269252.png 4. Exhaust flange: I copied the flange off my SSIs where they meet the dual in muffler. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679269272.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679269272.png |

How about duplicating the 20° piston tool for brake jobs? I know they are available in metal but they aren't real cheap. I don't know what the cost for a plastic one would reasonably be.

I've done a few prints for working on the car.
Valve Adjustment Gauge http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680093740.JPG The brake tool mentioned earlier. This one needs to be revisited as it didn't seem to be scaled quite right. The paper print out I used might have been off. I can update the model if anyone wants it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680094020.JPG Intake covers http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680094020.JPG |
My first cad/ 3d print project.

I need to get into this!

The intake covers look cool but (stupid question) why do you need them? Don’t your carbs go there?
|
For me, I will be rebuilding the carbs soon. I figured if I could 3D print covers instead of just shoving shop towels in the ports it would be a cleaner solution.
|
I love this thread, I'd just like to ask that when people post their awesome inventions and creations, they also post a link to thingverse or some other online repository where the rest of us can download the files? This way you won't have to constantly field requests for the files from people who come along later.
|
I put the intake cover and valve adjustment CAD here.

For fun I made a cooling fan model.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680180354.jpg They could be used also for other things like key chain or so. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680180394.jpg Below is the STL. Print with support. STL Cheers Engelbert |
Link to Fan STL file doesn't work.
I think you need to copy and past it directly into your post using post reply. |

Anyone, by chance, have an stl file for a horn grille? Would love to print one that would allow me to utilize mesh rather than the louvers…

Anyone have the skills to print a full size fan 3 piece mold in Petg?
|
Outsource it to Shapeways or 3D hubs.

Hello Tom,
do you sell the rod and chain holder tools, too? I searched your webside but didn´t find them. Many thanks, Malte |
Crazy cool thread.
One of my first internships was at a rapid prototyping company. I printed lots of my test pieces under my desk! Definitely need to get myself a unit also or use the one at my job! |
Hi, Malte
I have created a Thingiverse account and put the files for the P221 and P222 tools there. It has been a couple of days, Thingiverse have not approved it yet. I will post a link once it has been published. Cheers, Tom |
