Interesting idea!
If the early mirrors can use the existing holes the adapter would mostly be used to hide the extra holes.
I don't think a plastic adapter would be strong enough to hold a mirror on its own, it would be safer if the mirror bolts go through the door, but I'm all new to this so I might be wrong.
Just bought a Bambulab P1S and will have to learn how to use it!

AchtungKraft makes bullet mirrors with flag mirror mounts.

Yes, those are very nice products. I was hoping for something that would allow me to use the stock, 72/73 mirror.

Anyone out there find any gearshift knobs for a G50 transmission?

I can buy one for USD 150, but now that I bought my sewing machine, I am more inclined to print a knob out and then cover it with matching leather.

I'd love to be able to start from a known fitting knob.....so...anyone find one? I checked Thingverse already...no luck...

OK, answered my own question....shifter knobs are easy as per below. Insert is from our host, just in the process of getting ready to cover it in lambskin, but it looks OK just printed in ABS (100% infill and 5 outer layers for strength).

It bolts in using the standard method single 8mm. Turns out you can adjust the height of the ball a bit internally, I made mine a few cm shorter as I have arms like a monkey.

I tried 3 or 4 until I got the diameter and shape the way I wanted it, and I like the spherical shifter....but almost any shape is possible.

Here is the latest update on the console. It includes Autoheat/AC controls, alarm button, antenna up/down, PCCM box with dual USB as well as a 7 light warning system for low washer fluid, parking brake, oil cooler fan on etc.

I put in the orange lettering just for fun. Easy to do in Fusion 360, just do the text (Porsche font in available online) in a sketch, cut it all the way through the object you want the print on and then do another extrude to make the letters in a different colour. I put a 0.25mm backing plate on the letters which seemed to help them print on the Bambu.

Then snap the letters in, tap them into the object - plenty of friction to hold them in place.

the "dot" on the 3.4 was a pain as well as the inside of the "9".

Other than that....looks ok and everything works.

Just get the knob covered in leather and it will be perfect...

A small project: electric vacuum install. This was done using a UP28 vacuum pump. I wanted it close to the brake booster to eliminate clutter and long hoses, etc. I wanted to eliminate any fluctuation in the MAP signal due to brake usage.

I designed and printed a bracket that attaches to the back of the booster using some hex standoffs. The print uses PETG-CF which is plenty strong enough and heat resistant. I painted it with 3M undercoat for some texture.

So far, this has worked out great. I placed two check valves in line for redundancy (they are CHEAP) and it works great. It takes about 3 seconds to build initial vacuum and I only hear an occasional pulse in use.

Made a filter / intake cover for a 2.7 MFI intake and an air duct distributor for 50mm hose lines for a friends 914-6 with a 3.6.

Carbon fiber Nylon. The duct piece took more than a dozen tries to get right.

Been using nylon/carbon, nylon/glass and some exotic German nylon mixes for high temp parts and am amazed at how strong and robust they are. Takes lots of fiddling with print settings and print orientation to get good results but man, it’s a cool material.

Im trying to have someone design a modification for my 930 tea tray whale tail, and he needs a "STEP file thats 1:1 ratio". Does anyone have a true scan of the tea tray? Desperately need. Will pay for service provided.

If and when I finalize the design to a degree that I’m satisfied with I’ll be posting everything. I’m still working on it and will push ahead this winter now that driving season is winding up.

I might have several, as well. Winter "inside project" time is nearing so I will be back at it soon. Depending, I may have a completely new setup by spring.

The printer has been very busy (with another project as well, shh) and as soon as I pull the CR unit and model the fresh air intake I’ll be able to start assembling.

All new servos, new design, new electronics, new code… etc.

That said, I have an engine and trans project that are the priority right now. Lots to do!!!

Bambu Labs just introduced a new filament PPA-CF that looks unreal- basically plastic metal. Also priced accordingly at $150 per kilo. I want.

This new material looks awesome. It might be just the ticket to enclose the PTC defrost heaters that I have been working with. ....new possibilities.

Also, samezy on the "new" things. I am switching gears on the servos, again. I found a couple new options to try this winter. I have the condenser modeled and ready to print. I have the frame from send-cut-send already and now it's just a matter of time to print, assemble, and test everything. It includes a fresh air valve which I am most excited about. I still have a few things to work out, but overall, I'm stoked for a new version.

What was the trick to getting it to bend?

Have you created a finished product yet? Very interested in this considering there are not many aftermarket available(that actually fit properly).

It's definitely a cool time to be into 3D printing, even for people who are not such nerds who enjoy it as a hobby in itself (like me :D)... :D The new filaments are awesome and are going to make it much more accessible to home print technical parts, without having a 150°C chamber that is required for PEEK, PEKK, Ultem etc.

For your application with a PTC heater Joe I would also look into Bambu's PPS-CF, a bit less tough than PPA-CF and weaker layer adhesion in Z, but that you can design around that, and the 264°C heat deflection temp is impossible to beat on a non commercial printer.

I got a printer recently and have been turning my center console/casette holder into a phone mount. Hoping to incorporate a wireless charger while rerouting the fan controls.

I just scrolled through all 13 pages of this thread and loved it - do you think that this topic could merit another subsection on Pelican? ie 911 technical advice; 911 turbocharging supercharging; 3D printing discussion

As the database of available projects grows and more people enter the hobby, I think it would be valuable to search "phone mount" or other such projects!

Sorry for the delay in replying...but the trick was to make each rib on the hose have enough "S" shape to it to allow the offside ribs to separate and get bigger, the nearside ones enough spacing to allow them to compress.

All I did was make the shape above in Sketch and then rotate 360 degrees over the central axis.

I printed in TPU vertically so no support was necessary, the top end was wiggling enough to make it a little stringy at the top, but perfectly serviceable. A shorter pipe would be much better in that regard.

I decided to install an AFR gauge and new sensor in the car.

Looked at mounting options and decided that big hole in the center console was the best place. Spent some time in the car getting measurements and a bit on CAD and out comes a printed part.

Top 2 holes are for the AC controls, middle switch is for the power antenna. I want to be able to leave the antenna down when using bluetooth or USB.

I added a voltmeter with USB charging ports on the bottom.

Next up is to disconnect the old panel and install the AFR sensor and run the wiring.

I got the X1C, mainly for car parts and maybe RC planes.
I took an available twist on funnel design for long hoods and modified it to fit mid year and later impact bumper cars. I had to make a couple versions with different length necks because not all oil tank fill tubes are the same length.

Since our driving season is over, I haven't had a chance to go visit any of my 3.2 Carrera friends to try it for size. When I was modifying the original design, I thought the OEM Carrera snorkel might get in the way of the rotation to lock it on the collar.

the answer is not yet. My printer is was not big enough and also dissolvable supports would make it much easier as getting to the inside is not easy. I picked up a multi head large printer (supposedly for work....) and am finally have time to set that up. The design needs more work to fit my application so I'll need to re-draw with compound curves to get the path right. Still in progress but will be taking more time for sure.

In the mean time I have done some simple stuff and got the canister mounted on my 964.

This one took some trial and error. It's a block off for the power steering pump assembly when deleting the pump in favor or an electric pump or in this case a manual rack.

Awesome stuff! I got an Einstar 3D scanner on Cyber Monday... looking forward to using it for some 3D work on my car.

Not that I needed a scanner for this, but much like eflight I'm looking to repurpose my center console. I plan to modify a wireless charger/phone mount into my center console. My goal is to set my phone down, have it magnetically secured, while charging and showing directions/providing bluetooth tunes.

Front A-Arm Bushing Installation Tool
 

I cant remember if this has been posted already but if not, here goes. A-arm bushing installation tool.

Works for all 911s and 912s thru 1989. Should also work on 914 front suspensions. Large tool is to drive the bushing onto the arm. Small tool is a pilot for installing the bushing on the rear of the arm, in conjunction with the large tool.

Print in FDM in any rigid filament at 100% infill for maximum strength. PLA works just fine. Print with any of the circular faces on the build plate.

I imagine SLA will work just fine since you are using this tool in compression. And if it breaks, just print another!

I noted the funnel posted previously and got a little bored....so made this version in light of my engine going in and needing a few oil changes during breakin.

I wanted it solidly on, hence the threaded collar that goes on the oil tank threads, holding the whole shebang solidly in place

This is the mockup, but the final version will be in PETG and has a hole for hanging on the wall. Didn't want to clean it every time, so I made this little TPU plug for the bottom. Seems like a good seal plus TPU is oil resistant, so even if a little hangs in there, not an issue.

Looks really useful. I’d need to check if my old Creator Pro can print PETG.

I know a lot of owners curse at putting oil in their cars due to the foolish placement of that filler spout, particulalry when adding oil after a change and using gallon containers.

I am tempted to try and sell them.....it took a few days of design and a few trials...think anyone would buy one?

Nice design, well thought out. If you want to hang it up, a top cap to keep dirt and bugs out would be helpful.
