Question about rebuilding fresh air blower 911 SC
For those of you who have replaced the fan/motor inside the fresh air blower in the trunk, what did you use to replace the gasket-type black material inside the air duct flappers?
I was thinking about using a double thickness of rubber gasket material (see picture) that I got at Home Depot cut to size, but wondered if anyone had a more elegant solution.

Thank you! I just wasted half my day, with the exception of posting here. :-)

That looks like a better solution, but my craft store foam sheet has been working for a few years now.

I just ordered some and will soon see how they fit.
Initially planned to grab something from McMaster Carr and make my own but for the price, how can I lose? Still have my original option if I am not satisfied.

I used some EPDM rubber sheet from a roofing job that I had left over. I cut out rings the same shape as the old foam piece. I made it a little oversize, then test fitted it several times to trim off the excess. IIRC, I also used some super weatherstrip adhesive to hold it in place permanently. Ended up with it slightly touching the inside of the duct and it works great. Also a piece of old truck inner tube (the quality rubber, not the crap made in China), would work.
And while you're in there, squirt some ATF into the blower motor bearings. Last edited by PeteKz; 12-04-2022 at 11:44 PM.. |
