I like the ducktail too, but something about the ST builds is appealing to me.

Your post is awesome! A real masterclass in digging and finding the rust and things that 50 years will bring. Thank you for pointing me to it. I've saved it for reference. :-) I'll DM you about the GT Seats. The recaro are comfortable and keep me in place but they're definitely heavy and they're definitely not correct. Thanks!

Definitely trash the interior and lose the dead weight. I have a set of GT classic seats if you want a period correct setup. Let us know how it drives. Enjoy it before diving in. That will give you a better idea of what you want to do with it..

I like those seats you may find out that they’re the only suspension you have.

Ha. You mean that it will be super stiff without the spring of the recaro that are in the car? :-)

So I think the first thing that needs to happen is the addition and subtraction of chrome. I hate the non-chrome flag mirrors from the 78 doors, so those have to go and get replaced with chrome. I also want chrome horn grilles and euro style signal lights (orange and white instead of just orange). I also have to get shoulder harnesses in the car, and get the back seats to stand up so that my kids can ride with me. The kids love the Porsches.

Anyone have any Chrome flag mirrors? ideally small ones.

This car is awesome, the "custom flares" and other sweet period modifications! Awesome that it has a hotrod MFI engine already sorted out. Followed the BAT experience, nice purchase. I'm obviously a minority but my favorite tail of all time is the one your car currently has and it works with the flares IMHO vs. on a stock narrow body car. Following for sure.

Bright trim vs black: I don't know nearly as much as others on this forum, though I believe there are some factory subtleties on the '73 that differed from earlier LWB cars such as: black trim around the signal and tail lights, black horn grilles, black rear grill (also '72?), bright window trim, bright flag mirrors and I think still bright headlight trim? To the "expert", some of these these give the car away as uniquely a '73! Just another thought to consider, originality is long gone in a good way so none of it really matters...

I 100% agree the current mirrors need to go, drive it!

Glad you like the car! I'm still pinching myself, especially after driving it this weekend.

Bright vs black. I hear you on the distinctive 73, but part of what i love about these cars is the chrome and the nod to the rocket era of design. My first p-car was a 66 for that reason. I'm stoked to make this thing mine, and drive it like I stole it. :-)

I agree that a little chrome in key places will help make the car pop. I hope the "black out" trend has passed.

Hee hee. You should see the space with the lift! I bought one for the shop off a farm sale a few years back. Saves my back!

So the custom console is out of the car after removing the driver side knee pad. Now I have a knee pad with no center. I don't think I need an ashtray and I've seen a 964 knee pad delete from Jman Porsche. Wondering if there is a knee pad delete for a 1973. Love help on this!

Kneepad?

Hey all - this is what the underside of the dash looks like. What is missing? Ashtray? This is different than my old 73 kneepad so i'm a little confused about what i need here. Help!

I’d be more worried about cleaning up the electrical than anything else.

wow. that speaker. and the V1 remote display, I thought it would be handy for that to be closer to the line of sight.

Samcox, where are you located? I've got a ducktail (steel frame, fiberglass lid) and a couple of sets of seats you might like. and so much more.

It looks like something bigger than the ash tray was there, it looks like "they" modified the dash panels/knee pad to fit the center console.

Hey Blucille - I'm on the east coast outside NYC.

There is a V1 on the roof between the sun visors, then the display you see. I feel like "they" modified that kneepad as well, but I was also thinking that maybe they used a later year part? I don't know anything after 1973..yet.

I've sent you a DM on the other parts. Thank you!

So i found this rennline kneepad replacement but it says it is only for the 1974. I'm wondering if it can't be made to fit a 1973, especially with my ashtray long gone.

It's been a while Samcox912, how are you and the BAT car doing? Are you driving it or did you start taking it apart more than expected?

Cheers,
Lukas
