1988 Carrera 3.2 Euro - What O2 sensor?
I was about to get this O2 sensor for my 88 Euro Carrera 3.2 - this sensor has the single round connector:
Then I spotted there's another one with a second or different connector: Anyone know which is correct or will fit? My car is a backdate with currently no O2 sensor, so it's not possible to disconnect the existing one and take cues from that. And there are a selection of unconnected spare plugs in the engine bay. |
This guy at Pelican Parts is very competent with Porsche items:
John Hunter x260 / jhunter@pelicanparts.com Good luck. |
I thought that euro carreras had a premuffler, no CAT and no O2 sensor?
|
Euro Carreras were available with and without cat.
My 1988 Euro 3.2 Carrera with cat (930/25 engine version) has that round circular O2 connector from your Ebay link, it connects in the left side in the engine bay, near the fuel filter. I'd buy it from Amazon instead of Ebay however, might be a couple of €/$/£ more but they couldn't be easier about returns or warranties. |

RP wants €115 for the sensor, you can buy a genuine Bosch for €65 from Amazon with free shipping. Plus they have a no questions asked 30 day return and 2 year warranty, good luck trying that with RP on an O2 sensor... RP has a very good selection of parts and good prices on some things, but it sucks that they don't disclose what brand product you are getting (Pelican for example very openly states what is OEM, original Porsche, aftermarket and has different prices for each). And you can be sure that RP's return and warranty policy will never even come close to Amazon. I buy from all of the above and they all have their pros and cons, but I'm definitely not willing to pay almost 2x for the same part, with worse shopping conditions. So it usually pays off to shop around... Cheers, Lukas |

And if you have a CAT but no O2, not good! Also, you are aware that without the correct Motronic chip, the O2 system won't function by just adding a sensor, right? |

Totally agree with what Lukas says about RP.
I'm French, I live in France, RP is French, and I never buy from them. There must be a reason or two. |
living in Belgium, I always buy via ALPO https://alpo.nl/ in the Netherlands
cool thing is that there are real people behind the mailbox, they actually answer with knowledge on their mind. If you are wondering about a specific item, they mail you the parts number and pictures first, so that you can indeed confirm. Had zero issues with them... I also stopped ordering at RP because of the above remarks (you don't know what you gonna get) |
all this said ..still.going to original post...i would like to see the picture of the connector OP has ..

In UK our test for this year of car is a few percent CO at warm idle, and I'm getting one or two percent too high. I don't recall the exact numbers. Thankfully I have a very understanding tester but I don't want to take too many liberties with him. I will check and post a pic of the plug in due course. I just haven't been back under the hood yet. 1. The discrete circuitry for an O2 function, not the 0-261-200-051 ECM. 2. The EPROM has the O2 microcode. |
