1988 3.2 Carrera How to safely remove electrical connector
See the picture, I need to pull the connector to get oil pressure before the first start up. Is there a trick to pulling these? I get worrried about working the connector too much and breaking it. I just wiggle the heck out of it and it comes loose after a while...

I disconnect the plug for the injectors on the crossmember behind the heater blower motor.

Remove the spring clip. Search junior timer connector.
To prime oil pressure you can remove fp fuse or the dme relay. Last edited by 917_Langheck; 06-09-2024 at 10:42 PM.. |

You can't see the plug but can easily reach it by feel. Just pull it straight up slightly and leave it in this position so you just have to push it back down once pressure has built up.

-theft option.* I tend to unplug / plug the DME relay by "hugging" the base of driver's seat from the side. It's pretty easy to do by feel, at least under Pole Positions. *I've thought it would be SUPER COOL if Focus 9 offered a "switched" version of their relay with a protected rocker switch on the top, as it would be easy to reach down and turn the DME on / off for any number of purposes.

I appreciate that one can wire-in separate kill switches, but the coolness factor from one integrated into the DME relay would be hard to beat.

![]() I personally wouldn't do it because I don't find the position of the DME relay to be convenient for an everyday use kill switch. You still have to bend and partially remove the carpet that protects the relay and ECM connector, then reach to the switch at the top of the DME relay.

Thanks Gilles. Cool to see the inside.
Mine are easier to access due to Pole Position seats and aftermarket floor mats (w/o the flap that covers the leading edges of the ECU & DME relay).

I thought having a manual transmission alone is anti-theft enough in the 21st century when the kids don't even drive. Disconnecting the battery ground is the second layer of anti-theft. Unless the car thief is a Porsche owner, he would not know where the battery is.

If you have gone to the effort to add a rocker switch to the dme relay, you could add enough wire length to remote the switch to a place more accessible than the relay itself.
