Starting a car that hasn’t run in 9 months
The car in question isn’t a Porsche, but this is the only car forum I’m on.
I friend has asked me to help start his wife’s Chevy car after sitting for 9 months. The battery is naturally flat and the car has a full tank of gas. What’s the likelihood that the battery won’t recover and needs to be replaced? What are the chances that the gas is shot? What else? Wil there be potential issues with fuel pump priming or related things? Any input is greatly appreciated. |

I dont think you will have any problems other than the battery. I doubt you will have a problem with the gas. They are pretty well sealed form venting. My brothers gti had gas like 6 years old and ran fine.

I let my 911 sit all winter. Before starting it in the Spring, I disconnect the coil, then crank it to allow the oil to circulate until the oil light goes out before reconnecting the coil and starting it. A bit of dri gas in the tank can't hurt.

Connected a jump box to the car and it started right up with no hesitation. Went out and drove for about 1/2 hour with some Italian tune up mixed in.
Got back and turned it off - battery was dead flat, wouldn’t even light up the dash. A fresh battery and it seems good to go. The battery is ginormous and at the front most end of the trunk. It has to be lifted into place with fully extended arms. Luckily, guys at Battery Warehouse were up to the task. |
