Advice for quick release steering wheel with horn function

Hi Guys,
I have a 89 930, like to install a quick release steering wheel for thief deterrence. For street uses. I have seen Rothsport and Rennline QR, but from what I heard you can’t operate horn function. Don’t mind, but sometimes you need to stop **** from happening. My set up will be with Momo hub with Momo prototipo steering wheel.

Any directions or advice on which products that will do the trick with operating horn?

Would it be advisable that I use a Short Momo hub rather than Long Momo hub? With add distance.

Thanks in advance!!!

There are quick releases available that have electrical contacts so you can maintain the horn function. NRG and lifeline come to mind but I know there are others.

Krontec make just about the best you can get .
Wouldn’t be hard to get a “rothsport” modified to accept a deutch plug I imagine …

Tekniq has a nice one many have used. I have one in my SC with horn. Believe I need to also use a 1/4” spacer to make room for horn button.

Those Krontec looks Very interesting and sharp. But I don’t see how your going to connect the horn, which Krontec model do you suggest? For horn function:

Snapp off, look no further.
Solid, no play, horn function, very reasonabley priced.

https://www.murraymotorsport.com/quick-release-bolt-on-6-hole-4
Just needs a small spacer if you are using a momo hornbutton.

short hub works for me, since I installed the (mandatory) spacer for the horn button to work.

It’s basically the old model (which porsche use in cup cars etc) with the hole bigger to accept the deutsch plug .

If you don't mind shelling out close to a grand for a quick release get the Krontec. If it's good enough for Porsche to spec on cup cars it should be good enough for our antiques.

Got the Works Bell rapfix II, it made in Japan. Luckily, I found one in black. 4-5 months waiting all other Motorsports dealer. It one of the hottest and Popular piece. Japan quality should be pretty good, beside they have them on Aston Martin Vulcan supercar. I might still consider the Krontec for my RS America. Let me see how comfortable I’m with this, since it only $400. Thank Guys!

Very interested in this. Just curious if others have used this product and what was ordered?

I already have a Momo Mod 07/wheel and hub and see I can order the Works Bell quick release, just want to verify my Momo hub is all I need.

Thanks-

Erik

Based on an idea by Duane ( SSI Quick Release Racing steering hub, Rothsport Short hub, Horn ring) I am using a SSI quick release adapter in black with a rothsport hub and 3d printed horn spacer. I didn‘t want the sticking out pieces of the snap off adapter and don‘t like the idea of the ball type quick releases.

Old thread but hoping you can help.

I have a momo hub and wheel set up and just received this from MurrayMotosports and have all of the required items.

I am curious how the wire from the car itself is connected, or more so, what it is connected to???

Maybe I am missing something but can't find any info on the 'live' wire and where it belongs in the process.

Trying to figure out how the horn gets it's 'power' as my horn is now wired directly from the single wire coming from the car itself.

Hopefully be tackling this project this weekend.

Thanks!
Erik

The horn button switches to ground (not power) If you take that wire coming from the column (confirm it’s not some random wire- it’s brown I believe) and touch it to the wheel while wheel is on column = honk. Therefore, if you try to work on horn connection while horn relay is plugged in it could be noisy. I did that once and my wife thought I was in distress and signaling for help.

I have the same set up but can’t tell from pics what’s going on.

Outcomes are limited: nothing happens, horn always on, works as planned. Just remember to plug relay back in for testing.

It looks like someone used a black wire (PO woes I keep having with the electronics/wiring) and I bet you are right and it should be brown. That helps...

Have yet to install the quick release so hopefully I can figure it out.

Thanks!
Erik
