Tekniq steering wheel snap off quick release system...

I've grown tired of rolling the seat back to get in and out of my car, and was thinking of getting something like this. I have a Momo Protipo wheel, so fitament doesn't seem to be a problem.

So, my question is, does anyone use this system? If so, how do you like it? I'm thinking of going with the track version, though I'll still drive my car on the street.

Here's a link for more information.

http://www.tekniqauto.com/US/snapoff/snapoff.htm

Thanks.

It's great. I've got one. Thom Fitzpatrick's got one. Chris Campbell's got one.

Definitely get the race one, without the lock.

The race version is more expensive, and I really wanted black finish anyway, so I bought the street version and removed the lock by driving out a pin. I found a black plastic plug at Ace to fill the lock hole.

I like it a lot.

I ran the race model on my '88 Carrera for three years. It's the best!
Not only enables easy entry and access for working on your interior, but a good theft deterrent.
I agree with Jack, get the race one.

I got mine when they first started making them, and actually have a street version with no lock in the cylinder -- like what James describes doing. If this is cheaper, and the black color works better for someone, then it seems like a smart way to save a few bucks.

I've got a track version also. One side sticks a little sometimes, but otherwise I love it. I also bought a 'shorty' hub from them to keep my wheel at the same position relative to my body as it was before the install.

Has anyone noticed any play in the adapter and how thick is it?

Put a tiny bit of lightweight oil or WD40 on the retracting pins, and this will go away.

I got mine here http://www.tcracing.org/
they're very nice

word of caution:
they will fit a momo style wheel, but not a momo-style hub
you need a raid or nardi style hub
(unless they changed the design)
so double check!

a momo-style has a 70mm bolt circle, with the bolts starting at 12 o-clock (then 2,4,6 etc)
a raid/nardi/personal style has a 75mm bolt circle, starting at 1 o-clock (then 3,5,7 etc)

IIRC, you can mount both styles of wheel to the quick release, but only the raid/nardi style hub

I realize this is a very old thread, but I'm interested to know if the disconnect locks up firm (no play). Also, does the tapered pins hold tension over time keeping the wheel from developing slop.

Anyone?

Sook,

Have a look at Lifeline quick releases, they're based in the UK but i just purchased one for my 944 and the price is very reasonable and the quality is outstanding !

Cheers

Thanks, Phil. Where did you buy it? I did a quick search and they are $330 or so. The Snap-off is $190. I'm sure the lifeline is a well made product but I'm just looking for a functional QR that is slop free.

I'm looking to buy the Rothsport Racing quick release. From all the track guys I've talked to, it's got no play.

Do any of the options allow the horn to remain functional? Thanks.

As luck would have it, a buddy's car that is stored at my place has the Snap Off QR on it. I checked it out and it met my expectations, so I ordered one.

J-MAC, Snap-on makes a horn adaptor.

The Rothsport is the best quick release available. I have it in my race car and absolutely love it!! It is a tapered design that should never get loose and there is only one way to put the wheel on so you don't have to worry about getting the wheel on with the correction orientation.

Worth every penny!!!!

Sook,

I bought it locally from one of our shops for $250.00 Canadian, there is absolutely no slop and it's the same price for the weld on type or the hub type.In my case, on the 944 the PO had welded on a cheap version which i removed and replaced with the Lifeline unit !

Cheers

I am not a fan of the spline systems. The Rothsport unit is the same type of design as the Porsche Motorsports unit. It is tapered so as it wears it stays tight and there can be no slop.

Lots of good options.

For what it's worth, my Tekniq is still performing flawlessly all these years later. The horn works with it just fine.

It's the least expensive, too.

Looking to order one of these (have a MOMO hub adapter and a MOMO Prototipo). Can someone please clarify this statement? It doesn't make sense that it would fit the MOMO wheel, but not the MOMO hub adapter - isn't it supposed to fit either wheel and either hub?
