It certainly is not a factory number. That probably means the engine was built using a new unstamped engine case. The engine builder then stamped his own serial number.

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could decode this. I have a friend overseas who recently acquired a non-running 1970 911 Targa and would like to know more about the VIN and engine

VIN - 9110210041
Engine 6200107

I am not familiar with early 911s. He wants to know if the engine on the car matches the year of the Targa. Last time car ran was 2002.

Thanks JQ

Willcall, that is not the engine number or type number. There are detailed directions where to find the correct numbers posted earlier in this thread.
Lower right side of engine fan will be engine number manually stamped on case with engine type (930-09 for example) behind it.

Grab a flashlight and check them out and post back what you find.
Also, model year helps as well if you have the chassis.
Good luck

I just joined and am astounded by the amount of knowledge and expertise on these boards. I am hoping someone could help me out with some specs and info on the following engine code:

*6116180*

This is what I have deduced from other posts:

6 - 6cylinder
6180 - production #

Original Motor?

Hi Guys,

I'm Looking At Possibly Buying A '77 911 Targa.
I Was Wondering If This Might Be The Original Motor?
If Not What Exactly Is It?

Vin# 9117210101

Build Date 08/76

Engine #'s 911/85 & 6270241

Thanks In Advance For Your Help

VIN and engine number look correct for a '77 US spec 911S
Most likely the original engine

Another Engine Question....

Is This Motor A 2.7 Or A 3.0 ?

Owner Thought Car Had a '77 Carrera Motor
Installed In The 90's

Any Chance Of This Being A Carrera 3.0 Motor?

Vin# 9117210101

Build Date 08/76

Engine #'s 911/85 & 6270241

Thanks In Advance For Your Help

According to the Red Book (not always 100% correct)

The body would be 77 911S Targa US

The engine was fitted in a 77 911S (US)

911/85 is a 2.7 for US 50 state

Please decode my engine number

The engine code is 6451005

I think it's a '75 engine.

It sits in a 1973 911T

Thanks,

Tom
