Can someone please tell me the correct torque value for my 1989 Carrera intake manifold allen bolts?
Thanks very much.

I don't have a specific # but when I did mine I did my best to tighten them just enough to squeeze the gaskets but not enough to strip the nuts.
Use your best judgement. Cheers, Joe |

AS per the Bentley Service Manaul, on page 102-37 the torque
specs for the intake to cylinder head is 25nm or 18 ftlbs the same figure for the heat exchanger by the way. Keith Epperly 87 slant nose turbo look cabriolet "Carrera" |

Thanks for the replies. Finally found it in Bentley. 10 of 12 were loose enough to turn with my finger. Might explain the hissing noise I was getting at high RPMs.
Just got finished extricating the valve adjustment blade I broke while doing the #4 intake this morning. That was fun. Now one of the tiny nuts on the tool is stripped, and I don't want to fish anything else out today. Can't find any loose valves, although the engine is ticking...

52K miles. Put it back together and took it out after valve adjust, tightening intake manifold, and plugs. Seems to be running better, and quieter. Also found one plug that was not torqued down. I've had the car for about a year. Guess I should have checked this stuff earlier, but the car had a complete service history.

These inhex nuts are notorious for coming loose.
I'd recommend putting spring/wave lock washers under the intake nuts to keep them snug. Blue Loctite might be a solution too? Split lock washers would work too, but would probably dig into the manifold.

Are those nuts easy to get to? 'Cause I think I'd like to retorque mine for safety's sake.

Works quite well. Don't know how well it'll work with the engine still in the car though. I tightened mine while the engine was out. Might have to make your key a bit shorter than I did.

I was able to reach all of them by removing the heater stuff on the left, and the entire airbox. Pretty easy. Had the A/C compressor off too, but I don't think that's necessary.
