Sticky Clutch Early 911

Hi guys,

My 1970 911T is playing tricks on me.

The car hasn't been driven for over 6 months and now it's got a sticky clutch.

The gearbox is only shiftable when the engine is not running. Shifting from neutral into any gear with the engine running, is just not possible. When I turn the engine off, shift into first gear, keep the clutch pedal pressed in and then crank the engine, the car hops forward.

How do I get rid of this nasty problem?

Thanks!

Peter

have you tried cranking it in reverse?
if it's stuck , it might unstick if you reverse things?

just guessing here , by no means a tried procedure, but it might save you the hassle of taking your car apart
and it shouldn't hurt the car to bad if you only do it once or twice

Yes, I've tried cranking with the transmission in both reverse and 1st gear. It didn't solve the problem.

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 912 after it had sat for some time in storage. The friction disk, flywheel and pressure plate are stuck together. To free it up, put the back wheels up on stands, start the engine & let it warm up in neutral. Then start it in gear (2nd is good), depress the clutch, give it a little gas and apply the brakes. You may have to do it a couple of times & don't be timid about it. When the clutch breaks loose, you may hear a kind of "twang" noise. After you break it loose, use the clutch once a week to keep it from freezing up again. A guy on the 912 board just asked the same question about a week ago. Good luck.
