Hello guys, please do not take the following comment as a criticism(although I suppose it must be really!) but I have spent some time looking at the most recently posted pic's and have these observations:1)935 #68 the Interscope car,did it ever appear in what I call Joest style bodywork?2)Jagermeister K3 #2 did it ever appear with these side skirts which I think first appeared on the Coca Cola cars?3)Martini car looks beautiful but never appeared with this style of striping. My point is that these cars must have taken a huge amount of money and time to create but are not genuine in their appearance.I can understand a guy building a replica of a favourite car if he cannot get the real one but if you are going to invest this much then at least make them accurate replicas!! To understand where I am coming from you need to know that I build models of 935's and spend a lot of time attempting to get them 'just right',so any discrepancies always catch my'trained!!' eye. To all on the site however keep up the good work! Ian.

Ian,

I was thinking the same thing about the #68 car and the bodywork when I saw it at Daytona. Also all Interscope cars were #00 or #0. Unless this car was run as a one time deal at LeMans or Spa or somewhere that Ted Field "rented" the car and had it painted in the Interscope colors.

I agree with you, that you wouldn't think a current owner would have the car restored and not have the correct bodywork, paint, and numbers on it. These cars ran with many different numbers, paint, sponsers, owners, etc, a current owner/restorer would be hard pressed to know what race configuration to restore it in.

Here was the Interscope car at Le Mans 1979 using the #68 but running the standard body work.

Do you have any idea how many Interscope cars there were ? Quite a few... Many 935's started life as 934's, JLP III started life as a 912 street car... many went from standard factory bodywork to Kremer... when you restore a 935 many times you have a choice to make, what bodywork and livery do I want to restore the car to. The car may have won a big race as a factory body work car and there for you take it out of K3 and put it back into factory trim... The Jager K3 had open rockers, JLP II has open rockers... One of the Coca~Cola 935's had open rockers. Between myself and two of my buddies we have owned every Coca~Cola 935 and 962 left in existence. One of the Coca~Cola cars was the blue factory bodywork Bush sponsored car of Charles Mendes first ... before that it was a Georg Loos Gelo Racing factory bodied 935.... then after being a Coke 935 it was the Garretson supported blue # 90 Style Trim K3 that took second at Sebring in 1981 then it was the black Cooke Woods racing BP935 that took 5th OA at Le Mans in 1982 . 935s were workhorses and many went through lots of different evolutions.

Here are a few Interscope cars in our old shop about three years ago

I agree that many cars went through a number of changes in both sponsors and colours but also were constantly being upgraded in the quest for more speed. This was being done when the cars were current and in their prime so to speak. My point is that Interscope to my knowledge never ran a 935 in this syle of bodywork so why create this version today?I have also never seen the Jagermeister car or the Martini car in the form they are pictured in during their competition lives. The oddest example I have ever seen of changing one cars identity to another was on a 962 which ran here in England a couple of years ago in the Historic Group C races. The car was clearly a 962 but had been re -finished by its previous owner as the Le Mans winning New Man yellow and black car simply because that owner thought it would increase the cars value. The fact that the Le Mans winning car was in fact a 956 had apparently escaped him! The cars real identity was in fact the Dauer/Tic Tac car in whose colours it was correctly finished in by its new owner Nigel James. It goes against the grain for me to create something which is not true when all the evidence is available to do things correctly.I am not being stuffy but simply have a desire for historical accuracy, sorry if I have offended anyone!! Ian.

Van and I have spoken about this issue before. Several guys have tried to trace the history of the original 1979 factory sold 935's have gotten lost in the process. When the very well known MOMO Moby Dick 935 copy was restored it was changed back to its original condition. You would think you would want to keep it in its most well know colors.

It is the same with 917's. How many of the red/white 1971 LeMans winner fakes have been made up? Several over the years.

Ford painted several Mark IV's in the red/white colors after they won in 1967 and used them in promotional shows.

The story I was told from Carl Thompson ( on the# 68 79 factory car) who was the KEY guy at Vasek Polak racing for years was it was leased from Porsche / Hoppen by Field for Le Man, after Le Man it went back to the factory and was further developed (body work and intake & intercoolers, test car) later Polak ended up with the car as he did with many of the "left overs" from the Factory. It sat in Polak's warehouse for years and was sold to Bruce Ziegler and resold in to Japan. How do I know this? I tried to buy it but to rich for my blood at the time. I did buy the car out of Japan a few years ago and sold it to Lloyd Hawkins. The owner of the car in Japan had it as a street car with Motec........ It only has one race on it, Le Man. The car that I owned was also a 79 Factory Interscope car that won Daytona. It was bought from the Polak collection as well.

Second motor being built up from NOS parts I bought from Polak and a John Fitzpatrick long block I bought years ago from John.

That Interscope car was the same one Monte Shelton was driving at the 50 anniversary at Monterey in 1998 when he was in an awesome battle with Fitzpatrick driving the Sachs car .

PS- I just bought a huge cache of 935 parts and included was about 50 original 935 photo's. Some cool shots
