Locksmith Can't Cut Porsche Keys

I took my new $280.00 door handles in to my local locksmith to get the locks rekeyed to match my ignition and while I was there I asked him to cut me a couple of spare keys from the factory blanks that I bought. He told me that he could not cut steel keys and did not know of anyone in the state who could. Is this guy for real?? and how am I going to get my keys cut?? He is however goping to cut me a brass one for a spare. Now what?

Do you have the VIN and proof of ownership on your car? If so, a dealership should be able to do it...

Call a different locksmith. You can send them over to Barrier in Bellevue if you can't find another guy there locally.

Thanks for the info Eric . He said noone around here has the tools to cut them but I know enough to call around a little. And if I have to send them away so be it. Love your car by the way! I have been keeping an eye on it in youre various posts. I have black targa envy.

Porsche Dealer cut me keys yesterday from a spare key that works in my car. He could not get it right. i will have to go back tommorrow becasue the key won't open door or start the car. Same thing happened with my dodge caravan! Make sure the keys work before you leave!

I had the same issue six months ago. Had to go to 3 different locksmiths before one got it right.

my local guy won't cut the steel blanks either. he says they are hard on his machine. so it's not like they can't, they just don't want to.

There is a place here in SoCal that does them. PM me if you'd like me to get them done for you.

Believe it or not, I stumbled into a different locksmith down here on a previous car where there was cute young thing working the Saturday shift. She cut 3 keys for me when the machine kept bogging down on the fourth. She didn't charge me for the fourth. She said "Come in on Monday, and the owner will finish it..." She didn't know about steel keys (my blanks). The owner, of course, explained on Monday, the difference (at the time I didn't know). He had to replace the cutting wheel, and I suspect his daughter now knows the difference too.

I purchased two key blanks online a year ago and spent considerable time debating with local locksmiths that these blanks would not ruin their cutting tools. absolutely no luck, until i talked with the parts guy at MY Porsche in Seaside, CA. He said his cutter was outdated and probably worthless, however he cut the keys -- they worked perfectly -- and wouldn't take any payment.

Sorry if i'm opening a flood gate to MY, but they were the only ones in Monterey County that would even consider cutting a key.(Also used them to purchase original key -- with proof of ownership -- for my previous Carrera.)

I just recently had my key cut (the lighted one with the Porsche crest) and the locksmith cut it perfect the first time out. He even did it for free.

That's crap. My local locksmith has the blank for $1.50. I did not know. I buy the blank for $15 from P. Parts. He duplicate it in 30 seconds.

Took 2 Porsche blanks and my original key to my local Home Depot, they cut them for me and didn't even charge me. Did it again with 2 Ducati blanks just a few weeks ago.
