Gear shift knobs

My 79SC gear shift knob is one of those with two allens in threadless holes that does not hold. Before I order a new knob I was wondering if my set up was different than other 911SC's. I remember back that a gear shif knob was on a threaded pipe with a stop nut. But, that could have been on my 73T, past TR3 and 6, 914, VW fast back, VW Karmin Ghia .... You get the picture, old memory fails. What does yours look like?

I've got an '81 SC with a setup worse than yours. The shift knob uses a crush washer to stay on. Doesn't stay worth a damn.

Garage
the knob secured with set screws must be an aftermarket shift knob.
originally, your cars came with the crush sleeve version.
the crush sleeve is meant to be used just once.

from our host's catalog:

K-532-003-00 Shifter Crush Sleeve for Mounting Shift Knob, 911 (1974-86), 911 Turbo (1976-86) -- $7.75
