Hard tops and hard heads.
This thread sure has alot of C.R.A.P. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1226463119.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1226462887.jpg |
Replacing Cabriolet Rear Window
The rear window on my '83 911SC Cab split & broke recently in the cold weather. I have managed to get a replacement rear window section but have no idea how to remove the old one and replace with new, and I'm not too keen on just removing screws/bolts and hoping for the best...
If anyone has been through this process and could offer some advise I'd be very grateful. Feidhlim. Dublin, Ireland '83 911SC Cabriolet (Right hand drive) |
Are you saying that you have the entire rear section, that also includes the rear window? If so, the amount of work to replace the old rear section will be sort of a PITA. A lot really depends on how good of condition the front section is. Before you attempt to remove anything, take plenty of pictures, because there is a lot of little parts and some of the larger ones, that just don't look like it would be a certain way, but you will be able to take a look at your "before" photos in order to make sure you get it back together. Also, you need to have pictures of the inside of it also. If you are quite handy with doing carpet, any kind of upholstery around the house, you can probably do it yourself. If you are not very handy at detail type work, it may be better to locate a shop that does this type of repairs and let them do it. If you like feel free to email me for more info.
I replaced my top in 2001 or 2002 and I decided after doing it, that I would never replace another. It is a MAJOR PITA., but it was worth the insanity and work, because my top still looks like new today. I now know, why the shops wanted a small fortune for them to replace the top. There is a lot of hand fitting, trimming, gluing, stretching and adjustments that need to be made to make it look really nice. It is possible for one to do, BUT... it is a real pain, but worth it in the long run. Good luck!! Tony. |
I have the Special edition 83 SC Cabriolet supplement from the factory. I could possibly scan it and email the pertinent parts......or mail them.....

Tony,
I managed to get just the rear window section, in the attached illustration it's item #2. The rest of the hood is in good order as it had already been replaced by the former owner due to a 'knife wound' (some people have no respect!). Ideally I want to remove as little as possible to replace the new rear window section, I would hope I don't need to remove the roof section etc., am I being too optimistic? mikez, that supplement just might help, scanning/email probably better option than post as I live in Ireland! feidhlimoc@gmail.com

Does look like Soren had any luck... But I'll try the same. Anyone recognize this 1983 SC cabriolet (CDN Model with Ser # 0070)? Its probably been converted in Montreal QC, Canada in the late 90's Cheers J.J. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1256301116.jpg |

you will have to beg someone that has one to sell it to you.:D Thom Fitzpatrick made some but last I know he stopped and sold all he had left. A friend of mine in Nashville got the last one I think. Looks great on his 84 (his has been updated to 964 look and it now pushes air as well).
Strosek might still make there version, but it looks a lot different and the look is not for everyone. There was one other place I think that made them, but I think they were overseas, and I don't know any more about them... Of course you couold try to find one of the factory tops... |
From what I have heard Thom still has two tops. I believe a friend of mine is going to buy one so that should leave one. I would call him to find out.
RennLight.com - Church of Speed and Light (Weight) Holy Scriptures perhaps you can get his number off the web site. Of course as mentioned in other threads you could buy my top. It comes with car attached and screamin' 320HP 3.4 only $25K some interior work may be needed ;) |

couldn't resist
last time I closed my top, the pass side seamed to not come all the way forward! is there any adjustment? Had to manually trip the switch for the motor and pull ahead on the roof for the latch to properly line up to engage in the receptacle. Philiphttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1256351811.jpg
