IROC style oil cooler grills? Looking for fresh ideas.

I know the expanded metal or perforated sheets are the normal way to go, but to me they all look just a little to Home Depot to me. Yea, my IROC nose has the typical expanded metal but I just don't like it. I have my original plastic engine grill that I've considered cutting down to fit. So just looking for other ideas.

Thanks

Hey Ed,

I've always felt like the engine grill is a little restrictive for an oil cooler but I have no technical data to back up that feeling.

Ruf did use something similar so i'm probably way off base with that feeling. Although I checked the pics of the valance I sold a few years ago and it looks more open to flow than an engine lid grille

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/906269-vintage-ruf-poly-lower-valance.html

But since the flow across the front cooler is a bit challenged due to the area behind it being somewhat of an obstruction, I think we want to get as clear of an opening as possible while still providing protection against debris.

The stuff Pegasus offers is really nice stuff at a very reasonable price. I have a sheet of their coarse mesh in 18x24 size that you're welcome to check out and see if you like it?

Still trying to get a LARGE post like ^.
Here is mine. Not really an IROC. Seems that the long hoods have more room behind the cooler?
This is just stainless screen. If I was doing it again, I would have gone with the next gauge up on the wire size. If you hit anything at speed it can do an amazing amount of damage, so a strong grill is in order.

Perforated aluminum with matching decklid grill?

You can also use it to mount your front plate to it.

Kevin- thanks for the offer. You and I are fortunate to have Pegasus just over the border when we need things. Love that I can hop in the car and run up there to have them make and pressure test -12 oil lines and custom brake lines. We’re also lucky that we’ve got several Metal Supermarket locations in the area. They custom cut all the aluminum diamond plate runners for my trailer, plus the expanded stainless mesh for my current oil cooler grill.

Not sure about how restrictive the cut down engine lid grill is, but it’s definitely a more finished look in my mind. Just hate to butcher up a mint engine grill just to try it. But it looks like it would be far superior in protection from any rocks that kicked up by cars in front of me on the track.

DG567- THAT’S the look I’m going for, thanks!

Wow, nice work!

This is what I'm liking:

Dimensions are 23" wide by 5.5" tall with just slightly radiused corners, almost square.

I'll PM you too.

I wouldn't think there would be an issue ( of course extreme environments can effect this). There should be no issue with Stainless Steel adjoining Copper as both have similar corrosion potential in potable water. I clear powder coat should isolate the material, for my application, from the elements it might face.

If there were to be an electrolyte connecting them you might have a point. Again that would depend on the environment. Plumbing systems see these two metals interface often.

What size wire? It's not listed. I wonder what its intended use was? It would look weird on a car IMO. Plus that copper will look like an old penny after a couple of years. But again, just my opinion.

I am not certain of wire size without contacting the manufacturer directly. I am certain the use is of an architectural nature. Weird? probably different for sure. Copper would look OK if it was clear powder coated, as I mentioned. To each their own.....I have seen way more peculiar mod's on this forum........
