That kind of oversight sounds awfully expensive.

YermanCars 08-06-2004 07:49 AM

I'm just relaying what was offered to me by Protomotive when I inquired last January.
you just made it sound like that was stage 1 on the side kit.

i have to agree, Tod said in his email that any or all parts were available if you wanted to do something a bit cheaper. sounds like a great guy.

on the subject of emissions i just don't understand it. you guys have these very stringent tests but you're all running around in gas guzzlers (american v8's etc) - it doesnt make any sense!!

raceman 08-06-2004 09:00 AM

doesn`t make sense? The emissions testing is done so that gross poluters belching oil smoke don`t stay on the road. Now if you drive a big SUV (try it sometime, they`re cool) you`re probably getting poor mileage compared to a euromicrocar but the tailpipe emissions are just as clean. You have to remember your entire country can fit into one of our states and gas is cheaper over here. We`ve got the room for the road barges.Personally though l`d like to see some of the gas sipping diesel microcarsyou have over there sold here. But l`d like to see Fiats come back too, that`s how kooky l am. My daily driver is a 1971 Datsun 1200....

Joeaksa 08-06-2004 09:10 AM

Rich,

The majority of the people on this list do not drive a big American tank! We drive something much more sensable. For 7 years my 911 was my daily driver and now have a 91 Honda to use. Do not own anything that gets less than 20 miles per gallon.

That said, almost everyone in my neighborhood has a POS SUV and when the cost of gas goes above $2.00 a gallon they cringe. I lived in Europe and paid over $5 a gallon for years and have a different outlook on the situation.

Personally would love to see the VW turbodiesel's that roam Europe over here. 45 plus miles a gallon and fast as well as quiet and nice cars. Someday we may see them...

Think you could get a small I/C inside a carrera tail, keep heat & AC?

dickster 08-06-2004 10:22 AM

raceman,

yeah, i know - just seems ironic to me. maybe it will get people (eventually) out of the v8's - at least the older ones.

joe,

dont mention the freakin price! something like 80% of it is taxes.

david,

i don't know but i have wondered why no-one (on pelican) goes for behind the rear wheels in the fender - like the TT??

Ideally, I want a stealthy conversion... want it to look CTR-ish at most. (or that was a BTR I think I remember, gray/green metallic, carrera tail, etc.)

dickster 08-06-2004 10:32 AM

i believe that the ctr had them in the fenders behind the rear wheels (twin turbo)?

YermanCars 08-06-2004 10:41 AM

Guys all the questions you are asking have been discussed over the past six years, with intercooling it is all about efficientcy.

The problem with our cars, is that we need maximum amount of it,
to cool are intake temps down.

Little intercoolers are a waste of money and are not efficient for are application.

The bigger the better

Don't you think Todd At protomotive thought about all these Ideas
about intercooling?

Juan Ruiz and I had 100s of emails about turboing my 3.2 it was cheaper than the proto kit ,but not by much, taken the time it spent to get all the info together

It took about 8 months and it is still not 100% as there are little things that need to be done

I had a list of all the parts and everything thinking I was only going to spend 3-4k but I doubled it as I got into it

But again It was all worth it Thank You, Juan

Now I just got to fix the trans:D

dickster 08-06-2004 10:47 AM

yermancars,

it depends on the reason you want to do it. personally i'd rather keep the carrera tail - asthetically and cost.

your comments about cost were interesting - it is hard to beat the proto set up, it would seem...........

It will never be done...ever. Once you get started you're dead.

YermanCars 08-06-2004 11:34 AM

dickster
I was only saying about intercooling because I tried it with the carrera tail it could work but it is not efficiente

RickM 08-06-2004 11:37 AM

It depends on the amount of boost your running though. Being efficient and providing the proper volume are two different things.

YermanCars 08-06-2004 11:40 AM

But the way it goes is

first you have .5 bar

then you want .7

" .85

"1

"1.25

You get the point:D

Yup, classic Junkie behavior.

dickster 08-06-2004 11:47 AM

hahahaha, but i'm struggling to afford .5 bar so that will have to do :D

juan ruiz 08-06-2004 11:00 PM

Guys,

the Protomotive "On the Side Kit" with No intercooler, No Internal modifications, .5 Bar non Adjustable Boost,No Headers will produce 320hp/277rwhp if you can be happy with that that is by far the "Best" way to go, add a intercooler and headers and you will see 340-360hp.

I am not sure what is the price this days for that kit but at $4999 Installed it was a bargain back them.

Sure we can "Put all this parts together" BUT will this "Home Made Combo Kit" have the same results ? theres only one way to find out and that is for someone to do it and Dyno it, Only then we will have the true.

My advice build it right because if you go as far as turbo a 3.2 "Trust Me" you will want more hp, if you dont start properly from the start at some point you will have to trash everything and start all over, Ask me how I know

keep the 3.2 turbo camp alive and joint the ranks of happy motorists.;)

YermanCars 08-07-2004 09:08 AM

The Godfather has spoken:D

do it right the first time so that it doesn't have to be done again

911Velocity 08-07-2004 07:43 PM

So now I gotta look for a 917-30 engine for my next "fix". The 1000-1400 hp should do it don'tcha think?
