Cleaning Anodized Wheels

Okay, so I searched all of the fuch's refinishing discussions and couldn't find the answer to this questions.

What is the best way to clean anodized rims? I just got back my wheels from Harvey Weidman, they are aluminum 944 space saver spares for my 356. He anodized them and they look great.

Harvey recommended soap and water for cleaning to avoid any staining. Though he warned me grease was hard to get off, and there is a little bit of grease on the wheels from the tire mounting. Anyway soap and water didn't cut it. I used a little spit shine and elbow grease with marginal success.

How does everyone else clean their anodized rims? and any success with grease in particular.

Thanks,

Vaseline. Works like magic. It has completely revived my wheels; removed water stains, re-glossed the oxidized black parts, etc.... Simply rub it on with your fingers and wipe it off with a cloth.

Try a thread search on the topic.

Ah, I have read those threads.

Does it clean though, I thought it was just a 're-new' effect.

I am somewhat hesitant to put it on over any dirt/grease though...

use p21s to clean, then the vasoline; do not use the more common wheel cleaners

I've been using p21s wheel cleaner on my anodized kinesis rims and it works great.

Clean with WD40.

Then, wipe on wipe off vaseline.

The thinnest coat of vaseline is enough to protect the wheel. A thick film of vaseline allows brake dust and grit to stick to the wheel. I'm lazy and just use the WD40, seems to work ok.

Be careful with the WD40 as it can also remove the balance weights from your wheel.
