cleaning/rebuilding distributor-- what lubricant??

I've managed to take apart some of my distributor and I've been flushing/scrubbing it with WD-40. It works well, but now that I am about to put it back together, what lubricant is appropriate (if any, besides the WD-40 residue that's in there)?

I may be able to get some fancy Wurth lubricant later but is basic white lithtium grease/spray ok?

should the springs/weights/lever arms get one type and the two rotating plates on top of each other another?

thank you.

I know for the shaft Warren recommends 3 in 1 oil or just plain motor oil. Not sure about your other questions. I know if it spins and you lube it won't stick and will make a mess.

I sell a product called "Cam Lube". It is a silicone based lubricant that is designed for distributor lubrication. It is moisture and heat resistant. It works great!! It should be available at any CarQuest auto parts store. Part number is SL-2. If the counter person can't find it, tell them it's in the "Engine Control" line. If you really want to sound like a pro tell them "line code EC, part number SL2". Hope that helps!!!

thanks guys, after some searches it appears that WD-40 is the WORST thing for this app.... so whichever product I get my hands on will perform better than the WD.

yes - also don't just use the white lith grease w/o being sure of the particular application

if you have points they will need a special lube on the little nylon block

usually lubes for dist. use are designed for spark & ozone resistance, high temp. and often high pressure + water resis.

Bosch makes one as do many others.

damn... not sure if I'll be able to find Bosch lube before tomorrow. I have a track weekend and dizzy has to go in. All I've been able to find is a 3-in-1 oil and some kind of lubricant made by CRC (co. that makes Brakekleen)
