There were both 4-speed and 5-speed versions of the 915, and for most years of production ... the 4-speed was 'officially' standard, though most dealers in USA always ordered 5-speeds, even for low-end, price-leader models.

Well isn't it fun to be the new guy. By the way I found in my MM paperwork were it says that the trans was converted to a five speed. Hopefully it is done better than their motor work. Also as far as why I bought it and not one already done is, I wanted a challenge for myself. (Tired of working on 850 horse Nextel Cup cars.)

Thanx for all the help, My wife and I have learned (and saved) so much already. And it is surely going to be a long road ahead. And then some quick roads behind.

2.7 warning
Congrats on what appears to be a great looking P-car! The 2.7's can be a real problem. This is an excellent time to upgrade and give yourself years of less problematic and "quicker" driving. You may be able to find a low mileage 3.0 or 3.2 (Complete) if you're patient. You might try German Auto Dismantlers (Joe Cogbill) Murrayville, Ga. That's where I got my 3.2. You may be surprised at what's available if you look around. The swap is cheaper in the long run (if you're not an experienced Porsche wrench) and will keep you loving your new Porsche for years to come.
Red Cars Rule!!! This is the right place to ask your questions for sure. Welcome!

The coment why don't people ask before they buy upsets me a little. Here is the deal a porsche is a porsche. And there any many different models and options available. The particular model may have benifits or may not but regardless it is part of the porsche family. 914s are looked upon a little less. I have owned 6 and feel they are a fantastic atuomobile. I prefer the lines of the 911 but that does not mean its better then the counter parts as far as say handling . Regardless there is a llot of 2.7 bashing on this board and in the porsche world. It is so much that it made me take my never taken apart 2.7 apart just for a once over. It was a waist of time it was perfect inside and out. That 2.7 worked great in my 914-6 loved it and no case savers etc installed just well maintained and warmed up.As far as MM goes I think they are not the most trust worthy but It does not always mean you should just throw your car away(if you decide to call me I will arrange to pick it up) And come on guys he is new lets let him work threw the issues and help him rather then bash him. Way to make him feel welcome!!!!!!!

Welcome, we really need to do another NC Pelican Event...
Interesting wing, kinda looks like somebody tried to do a 959 style wing out of a carrera wing. Good luck! Now you'll get to work on a car the can turn left AND right ![]() Britt |

Wanted to revive this thread from 5 years ago today. Man was I a newbie.
Let me just say the 911 has turned out to be the greatest car I'll ever own. We just got back from a 450 mile run up thru some of the Smokey Mountains and she runs like a top. Of course most of that is due to getting rid of the MM engine. lol. Here she is today....
