Looks like the fender supports are rusted also....hard to tell in the pics. If you are planning to replace, please post some pics.
Thanks!

c911s :
I got the replacement suspension pan and fuel tank support from MAMS, they appear to be good quality. Matt_c The fender support is rusted pretty bad. I am going to probably fix this either by buying one or fabricating one myself as it is a pretty small area. This area bothers me because it is very close to the upper strut mount and probably see's some pretty high stress's so I want to take my time and do it right. I'll post some more pictures as I progress.

That's a really good website. How did you remove the undercoating? I've tried using the grinder and it chokes me out really quick. Also, did you remove this part in the picture? I was considering cutting the pan out along the 90 degree bend in the front (see picture 2). I was going to create a lap joint, although it is not stock intend my intuition tells me it will be alright.

Is all that rust on the 86' listed under your id? Seems bad for a newer car. Sorry to see that. I also have had the unfortunate pleasure of doing some major work in that same area. Take your time and keep up the good work.

ryanmt,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I used a 4" grinder with a course wire wheel. Works real well. The undercoating really goes flying. Yes, I removed the piece missing. I used a sawzall to remove most of it, then drilled out all of the spot welds and very slowly removed the pan. I butt welded my joint toward the back. Why? I don't know, but it turned out well.
