Yes, that's him. I heard that story years ago. He's got some even better ones too!

It looks more like dust from the track surface being pushed in front of the sliding tire. It looks more brown than grey-blue as the smoke on the other side of the car is.

Anyway, I'm glad the damage was superficial...although I kinda wonder what BBIII would be like (did I say that out loud?).

Jack,
If you are going to needlessly thrash my dream car like that; I'd just as soon you give me the keys and call it done!

Sideline Sports is a great outfit - he took these pics of me in Portland in 2004:

I'm not an engineer, but I agree re the possibility that it's dust - or a mix of duut & smoke. The ehat would push it out (expanding pressure from heating the air, PV = nrT) just as Isl. says.

More tothe point, I'm glad you're ok, and that car is not too badly damaged. The pics make it expecially helpful & instructive to us all.

Jack, I'm glad you came out OK, and the car should be OK (that'll buff right out!)

I'm just surprised that one of those tires didn't come in the window and give you a kiss!

Jack,

May I add a bit of advice?

1) As you said, you were coming in way too hot (this will come with time), so I agree pads were probably not your enemy in this situation. Pads should be checked prior to every event. If the rear pads were thinner than the front, they'll come up to temp quicker, thus bite harder, and vise versa. I don't know why you would be using two different compounds, probably something that can be avoided with proper use and adjustment of a prop. valve to avoid the possibility of this happening again.

2) From the mini-movie it looks like you were sliding quite a bit, but not one hint of steering correction or brake modulation. I know it’s scary to see a wall charging at you (you look like an ostrich with its head in the sand), but it very well could have been saved with proper inputs, possibly from even before the pictorial started.

3) You KNEW of a mechanical issue and still chose to run, putting you AND others out there with you in jeopardy. Not smart. You’re not racing, just silly roundy-round track time……..miss a session and resolve your issue FIRST.

I am glad that all turned out well, so just let this be a (expensive) lesson.

Let’s keep it safe out there, for you, and your trackmates.

Amazing sequence of pics... but yes, take part of that $300,000 per script and buy a proper helmet! We need that famous mug intact around here!

Tell us more of your fantastic insight Bob. Tell us about your vast track experience, car control skills, titles perhaps? (I don't know, maybe you're well qualified to judge... )

You also seem to have a less than latent dislike for all things Jack, based on previous threads...

The whole point is that the track is the most appropriate place to test, try, experiment with a car. But thanks, next time I have a track incident, I'll shoot you the details and you can debrief me

Also glad you are not hurt.

I think you look like one of my dogs getting her chest rubbed.

I once lowsided my motorcycle on a wet corner. Now I'm wishing I had pics so Bob could evaluate the incident and tell me what I did wrong and how I could have saved it.

You know, the last thing anybody wants to hear after something like this is some know it all telling you what you did wrong. How annoying!!
