proposal for the bay area
So here's my proposal...I want to replace the shocks, brakes, and rotors on my 88 911. However I just had newborn twins four months ago and am pretty tapped on cash. I had SAS German Auto (Pleasanton) give me a quote for $2700. Woah....
What I would rather do is purchase all parts from Pelican and have someone in the bay area (possible a Pelican member or the like) do the labor work. Of course I will pay (we can work on a fee) but the 120/hour rate at the garage is too steep right now. Is anyone interested? I would have even considered doing the work myself if not for my weekends being monopolized by my kids right now.

Call Mobile Works ASAP. I heard they do good work for less than most right on your driveway or garage. Here's their number:

Yes, there are a few of us who are quite helpful but it doesn't sound like dpolitzer would have any time at all to work on his own car so I thought he should give Mobile Works a call. If I'm wrong about this and you are are interested on DIY with some help from fellow Pelicans, by all means, post on the Yahoo group link above and introduce yourself to the group! |

RE: Sophisticates
Specifically some great "OT" threads discussing dogs, gerbils, and dates for New Years eve. I feel right at home. Granted the project list is substantial, but since you're here in Pleasanton I'd be willing to help wrench on some of it for beer if others bring some of the expertise. |

You would be right "can't drive"...in fact I joined the bay area group with the intention of getting together for some drives/events but when the kids came in September I just didn't have the time....by the way I do remember you on the drive we had in San Mateo/Halfmoon Bay..(the one time I was able to escape
![]() So I just really need someone to do the labor...quite cheaply I might add. Thanks for all the help so far and to those who have PM'd me. I'll look at the options and figure it out... By the way, the Pelican Parts sales rep Steve was quite the help!

If Vash and Cantdrv will help, I might be persuaded.
![]() The list doesn't look too daunting, and I wouldn't be interested in making money on the deal. The only one that worries me would be the front shocks. I'm in Livermore, and I also drive the best year of them all. Let's try to set something up.

parts
I have a set of koni adjustable shocks, 29 and 22mm torsion bars, sway away adjustable spring plates, and I may have a set of Weltmiester 22mm sway bars (I think they are pretty beat up though) The rear torsion bars and spring plates are almost new. The front torsion bars and shocks have about 40k on them. I would let everything go for $800
let me know if that works Ken Orinda |

I'd be willing to help out if the group decides to dive in on this one. We could put any cash towards beer!
-Jon P.S. What do you want to do to your brakes? rebuild calipers? Or just replace the pads? Oh, and I've done the shock replacement and it's not too bad. |

Ok folks..thanks for all the replies! I just got off the phone with Jimmy Deering from Mobile Works...he quickly told me about the deal he had going when parts were purchased from Pelican...essentially 50% off labor. At least until the end of next week. Anyway, I just couldn't say no...work done in my driveway...good references..and only "$140" for the job. Includes labor for brake pads, rotors, and shocks.
Thanks to all that replied...Kojo, thanks for the offer but I want to get the Boges and stay as stock as possible. To all the folks in the bay area...let's reserve the beers for drive in the spring.

Hey dpolitzer, I remember you now. Greenish blue Carrera? Anyway, see you on Mines Rd in the spring or whenever you can get away again. Congrats on the twins!
Oh yeah, $140 for all that work is a great deal! ZOANAS, good to hear from you again. JP911, thanks for the name of the smog shop. kJerns, have you joined us on a drive yet? I hope to put one together soon. |

$140? Sounds like a smoking deal. I wish I had called him. I spent more than half a Saturyday installing shocks and then another Saturday changing brake hoses and bleeding.

I would not do my own work if someone charges $140 for all that.

I wouldn't even do an oil change....but it's only because he wants to fill the new year with as many bookings as possible for the month of January...it was a deal that he posted on Pelican...as long as you buy the parts here you get 50% off labor. Having said that twice what I'm paying--$280 is still a great price. I hope the work is good..he's coming on the 19th. Ideally he'll be my "go to" guy from now on.
