Im saying when i was driving the alt light was on. I also noticed the druck pressure was all the way up when i got home. Nothing else caught my attention that alarmed me. Maybee it's cause i'm new to the car and I don't know what to look for in emergencies, but nothing else really struck me as odd.

sepsis311,
Because of the air/oil cooling of our cars, the fan belt is a critical part of the survival of the engine. (By the way, "druck" refers to the oil pressure on your car, which I suspect is a grey market import, originally sold in Germany.) The vast amount of oil in the dry-sump system helps to remove heat from the heads and crankcase, but the cylinders rely upon moving air, which is provided by the fan (which has your alternator mounted behind it).
The guys here are concerned, because by the time someone gets to the ownership stage in these cars, they usually have the critical nature of the fan belt etched in their brain. The drill is: Alternator light comes on: STOP. Shut down, open the engine lid and replace the belt with the spare you carry for emergencies.
I suspect the heat build-up in your pistons and cylinders have resulted in scoring of both, as the overheating in the cylinder walls thins out the oil to the point where its lubrication properties are reduced. This could be expensive.
Guys: Might the high oil pressure showing be caused from deposits congealing in the galleries under greater heat? I would have expected the oil to thin and the pressure to drop.
Let us know how bad things are.
Les

I forget on the 3.2 engine but on the 3.0 engine the sender for the oil pressure gauge is right next to the fan belt - I would guess that when the belt let go it hit the sender - unplug the wire to the sender and it pegs the needle at 5

Dude it sounds like you munched your engine - P&C sets will run you several thousand in parts and you will pay that in labor to rebuild the engine as well. I hate to say it but get ready to put your wallet on a diet.

The oil pressure sender on my '84 3.2 is right there by the fan belt and flying debris could have easily knocked the connector off, or taken out the wire - and Yes, if that circuit is open, it will "peg" your oil pressure (infinite resistance) to the top of the gauge (5+ bar)

If this is legit (and his "knowledge" seems inconstent to me), I would also fear the worst. I hope for his sake this is a bogus post, if not, you have my empathy.

I also use the Passport 8500 in Voltage mode. It started alerting me when my voltage regulator was failing (overcharge) - it sounds for abnormally high OR low voltage.

Oh, and all US spec cars from that era also carry the "Druck Press" labels on the oil pressure gauge - sort of a dual language labeling, I believe.

My level of fan belt paranoia just raised a notch.

Or, he can simply turn the car to the "run" position WITHOUT STARTING THE MOTOR. If he has an open circuit, it will peg the gauge - if not, he will have zero pressure with the motor not running.

Thrasher,
I have had the same feelings about four pages ago regarding this post. I think we have all been hoodwinked. After going back to page one and reading not much of anything makes sense. He jumps from one topic to another but really doesn't seem to grasp how serious this problem really is. Everyone of us know just how important that belt is and what to do when it breaks. He just wants to pop the clutch, if he in fact has a P car and keep this post going.

right... virgin poster who is "new to cars", but refers to a CHT sensor in the same paragraph?

I smell a troll... or is that burning clutch?

Wayne, how about an IP cross reference? I suspect a regular is having fun with us.

I know about CHT sensors because I read about them in these forums. Every day i come to this site, look at performance upgrades, parts, whatnot, because i want to learn about this car. Like i said, im not expert, and this is no hoax. I have never worked on an engine before, but can identify parts of it. I read up on this board all the time because i am amazed how quickly i have absorbed information from it.

Boxer, your close enough to me. If you want, you can come by and see the car, and the situation, and tell all these "helpfull" people who dont beleive me how REAL this actually is. Or anyone else in NJ for that matter. I live in fairfield, right by wayne if your interested. Why all of a sudden is everyone bashing me? I came here for help, not for flaming. So please, if you have nothing positive to say, or nothing informative, just dont post. Thanks for the discouragement. I really didn't think the porsche community would treat newcommers like this. I thought they'd be welcome.

For all of those that have helped me target the fan belt, and possibly the oil pressure sender, i'm very grateful, and it's too bad the rest of these forum members don't show the same caring attitude that you do. So thanks again.

P.S. as far as the screen name goes, it was my aol name from when i was 12 years old, im now 22. i've used it ever since. I havn't ever found a reason to change it, no one has ever complained about it before.

Sorry, if this is real, I truly do feel badly for you and I offered some advice on oil pressure gauge. It just sounds inconsistent with the "typical" Pelican 911 owner - even a newbie.

One picture is worth 1,000 words and I'm sure all the other doubters would apologize, too.

Sepsis, i'm not bashing you , but i can understand why some feel inclined to do so

if you read on the forum , then you should be a bit more scared by now
and either you are naieve, ignoranant , or just plain to young

but your replies to our information do not reflect the gravity of the situation

either that or you're a troll, in wich case , well executed

if not , then i hope that you are indeed the luckiest sob in the Porsche universum , cause 20 minutes without a fan , is no joke.

It was still light out. Here is my "makebelieve" car...
By the way, excuse the 911sc badge on the back. The guy bought the decklid from a 911sc for the car before it was painted. The place that did the paint put the 911sc badge back on. Anyway, to the point.

Before you're all confused, lemme give u a lil history. The previous owner, had the car repainted, interior redone custom, engine rebuilt pretty recently, transmission rebuilt, fiberglass front/rear bumpers, upgraded headlights, front sway bar, custom steering wheel, and prolly other things i dont even know. Anyway, he sold the car and i got it.

P.S. i should mention that all 4 brake calipers had to be rebuilt at powertech, 2 of them were frose. The car cost 8k, plus whatever the calipers cost to be rebuilt.

i think those wheels are mounted the wrong way
i may be off on this , but i always thought that turbo twists are supposed to be fitted , pointing forward, eg, sloped forward , not backward

like this one

not dissing now , just my 2cts, and those 2cts may be wrong
