More like how did they pull it off, hmmm lets see 4 huge crates and 4 super rare Porsche engines....

Did they really think people would forget about these engines?

On the side tha's pretty cool Wayne got them, will Pelican put them on display before they sell them?

When this is sorted out, it would make a good TV show on the Discovery channel:

Wayne’s actions need to inspire us all.

How many on this Forum have had the opportunity to buy something really cool at a bargain price and didn’t because it appeared to be the “too good to be true” stolen goods? What did you do? Did you just walk away and let the crook sell to someone else and then go for second helpings?

Stand-up guys like Wayne and others take a pro-active approach. They call the police, at some personal risk set up the sting and put the crooks where they belong.

Wayne, even if it had been a tired set of Fuchs, you make us proud.

Best,
Grady

lol, perhaps instead of thanking Wayne for the charitable contribution, we should be thanking the poor schmo who had bought these and was trying to sell them. Unless of course he knew they were hot...

An entertaining story in any event!

What is neat to me is the monetary value of the items recovered easily surpasses 6 figures which is a significant recovery aside from the historical value. Great job.

Wayne, your patience in this matter really paid off. Smart move keeping this on the QT for so long. Too bad the guy didn't try to run, maybe you could have tasered him.

More pictures please. But first I need to cover my key board to keep the drool off.

So Wayne;

Now that one mystery is over, several of us are looking for Bruce (Uncle Zak) Mosieur. He owes me about $1800 worth of parts. Can you work on this one for us. I think the total is at least $15k on what he owes everyone. Good job on the 917 motors! Hope the authorities prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. That is the stuff that contributes to the high insurance rates.

Unfortunately the person or people that stold these engines will never see the darkness of a prison cell in California, unless they have an extensive criminal record. It's just fact.

I'm surprised they stayed complete and that they were found in California, much less North America.

Keep up this type of activity Wayne, and I might just have to deputize you...

All kidding aside, it's refreshing to see people get involved in an ever increasing apathetic So Cal population... Fortunately, the BBS participants here do a fairly decent job of exposing fraud.... Wish the same could be said for the likes of Flea Bay....

I too remember the ad for these motors. My thought at the time was SCAM not stolen. It is a great story indeed!

I am really anxious to see more detailed photos of the type 771 motor. That looks fascinating. Be sure to let us know when you have taken more photos. Thanks.

Hm, let me get this straight: Whoever had the engines just let go of them right there because he/she was scared of them "running hot" and you simply took the stolen goods to your warehouse by a hired trucking company to later list them for sale for charity. This sounds like a b-movie Hollywood production. In reality:

- wouldn't the engines have to go straight to the police if anywhere....

- wouldn't the guy who had them either be forced to take an intelligence test (if he really was that dumb and didn't know they were stolen) or go straight to jail for trading with stolen goods...

What am I missing here

edited for typos
