Just an SC story
I looked all over N. Calif. and the internet for an '82-'83 SC daily driver/commute car. Criteria: sunroof coupe, clean, mileage around 100K, some documentation, original equipment, AC, no tails and around $15K. It didn't seem to be that difficult of a list given all the cars for sale. Here is what I found and I'm sure most of you know this. People love to modify these cars, especially upgrade or swap out the motor and add on an assorted style of tails. So a clean stock looking car is not easy to find. There also seems to be a ratio of about 7:1 Targa's to coupes for sale. So there must be a premium on coupes because they just don't seem to be on the market, at least with out tails. I found that the easiest criterion to match was the low mileage; there are an amazing number of SC's on the market with 50-100K miles on them. What was scary was the number that had already had "rebuilds" with that low mileage, yea head studs. I quickly got over the issue of low mileage cars with 915 rebuilds, which is just what it is for what ever reasons you want to assign. Clean is always hard to find, we know about the AC on these cars and documentation is also sketchy, especially on lower priced cars. I saw SC's priced from as low as $8K to as high as $23K, a considerable range in value. Long story short, I found one after 6 months of looking, in the local paper and about 10 minutes away. It fit all the criteria but is far from a perfect car. It had 10 years of receipts from the local one-man-shop highly regarded P-mechanic. I paid my price knowing that it needed struts/shocks, ball joints, tie rods, alternator and has a bad 1st gear syncro. And I will want to upgrade the oil cooler for commute traffic. Frankly, I feel like I over paid by the cost of the suspension work. Actually the SC's seem to be getting soft on the market. Just my opinion. Having said that, stick to your price and prove me wrong, please! Am I sorry, look at my grin.

The KW is in the works. But my little SC has been doing all the trucking, crossing the USA in every kind of weather for it's new owner.

Congradulations on the sale !!
That was very quick. Every 911 I've looked at over the last six months are still for sales except for one.

Good looking new ride, Bob! Hope you get back to the P-club real soon.
I guess it is okay to say that I am the proud new owner. I flew into LA on Tueday morning, met Bob at TRE around 1:00 PM and was on my way to North Carolina by 2:30. Who says it doesn't rain in California??? ![]() Here is a quick picture of my new baby tucked safely away in my garage. ![]() I post more pictures and details of the trip later today.

Holy crap Bob!! I completely missed this thread! Sorry to see your car go man. She is one clean car for sure. As happy as I am with my viper green transformation, that black metallic will always have a special place in my heart. Stick around here!!!

Here is a picture of her all shined up after her trip home. It was amazingly easy to wash. . . I guess the driving rain most of the way from CA to NC keep the bugs and other road crud off of her.

Excellent score, Hal. Definitely one of my favorite SC's I'm glad to see it's still with a Pelican-head. Bob did a great job of caring and feeding that beautiful SC.

My contribution on the Fair Market Values: Just sold my SC today at my asking price $14,000. I did not want to sell for less, I would have kept it.

I'm not kidding, when I went over to TRE Tuesday to meet Hal
it was pouring rain. Vineland Ave was like a river at Chandler blvd.. In front of the Shop was also deep flowing water. I though, Oh man, that little SC leaving for NC in all this bad weather might not be good. Then I thought of all the off road racing that had been done in 911's in every type of weather over the years and thought again, It will handle it. If the Flatsix mobile could talk it would have said, Bring it on. I don't need no stinking transport service.

You just never know what's going to happen next Your SC is now Green and in Colorado and mines on the East coast. That's good, we're keeping things moving and shaking. As far as another Porsche for me ? I wouldn't be surprized.
