Up dating to 964 rocker panels

What is involved in using 964 rocker/side panels to a mid 80's 911? I have seen this done in this forum would like to hear from experience. Can the jack point still be accessed? Is there another option to side panels than the 964?

Thanks in advance.

Based on experience with my car you won't be able to access factory jack points.

You could just buy my car See my ad in the "for sale" listing.

Darnell, do you have 964 side rockers on your 87? Was it a direct bolt on? How do raise your car?
Thanks

964 rockers on a 76, but you need to update everything else to make it look right.

I have a set of rockers in the shop to go on my car. Looks like panel clips of some sort will have to drilled into the side of the car to hold the top edge. I'll see if I can post pictures of the parts soon.

The rockers were on the car when I purchased it.

I have a low jack that I use to lift the car.

Still for sale

I would consider an automotive grade double sided tape before drilling. I have a 964 and the clips are pretty flimsy-not the best design imo.

3m has a tape called VHB (very high bond) used in industry, used lots of places on autos to hold the side trim on now. Goes on once, never comes off.

Yep- a lot of molding is just held on with the 3m stuff and it's very durable. It's a great thing because it removes the need for holes in sheetmetal. My Caravans moldings are "taped" on and they're there to stay. I'm probably even removing some bent clips from my 964 and using the 3m stuff.

Slo-Bob, what does the 964 use for factory jack. If I goes this route I will need to consider this.

You could potentially make some square holes for the jack points and use the factory plugs.

I guess you could just remove the rockers if you needed to get at the torsion bars as well...

That, with painting, sounds like a lot of work...

ianc

Edit: Anyone got a side shot of 964 rockers on an SC\Carrera with stock flares and bumpers?

I have a 1977 with a full OEM C2 update look. The rockers are held with tape on top and screwed in to the chassis on the bottom of the car and in the wheel wells. Its really easy but becareful the tape is not to thick coz the gap looks terrible. Good luck

964 rockers

Thanks for the pointers guys. Bought a set of 964 rockers off eBay a few weeks back. Ordered some paint from paintscratch.com. Finished the project today. the rockers are bolted underneath, screwed to the inside of the wheel wells and I used Velcro along the top edge. I had to remove some of the material on the back side to get a flush fit due the thickness of the 3M plastic reusable Velcro. This is so the rockers can be removed and reinstalled in a short amount of time.
Also installed the MA Shaw front fascia and will paint to match along with a RSR FG rear bumper. This should get me through till spring where a complete paint job is in order.

Looks good. I cant believe everyone with a 74-89 doesnt install the C2 body kit. What a difference. As far as removing the plastic on the back for the flush fit, I had to do the same thing but I like the velcro idea. I was afraid it wouldn't sit flush though. Could you tell me how much of the plastic you removed and what kind of velcro exactly. Ill buy some tomorrow.
Thanks
Nathan
