Dear Friends,
I'm working in my '72 911T with '67 engine. Is a '67 starter the same as a '72? Thanks Frank

Frank,
Theoretically, no, but I have seen exceptions to the official service manual. '72 should have SR-68, a 1.5 hp Bosch starter ... '67 should have SR-17, an 0.8 hp Bosch starter ... Both starters will fit either year, interchangeable without any changes.

So the difference sounds like horsepower. Are they the same size?
I bought a '67 starter and it started the car 5 or 6 times, everytime I gave it a little gas the starter would reengage and let out a horrible whine. I installed a brand new OEM ignition switch 200 miles ago, by the way. Thanks Frank

I figured it out, I had the connectors misplaced.

Thats good, because my 2.4 has been starting fine with an original SR-17 for 69K miles!
