control arm question

My '85 Carrera suffered a slight fender bender when a lady backed into me. Her progress was stopped by my LR wheel, and the only damage to the body was that the hump over the rear wheel was pushed in somewhat. The local (non Porsche) body shop did a good job on the paint match, & as the wheel had been hit, I asked them to check the alignment.
They have great alignment tools, and after checking, said all 4 wheels were somewhat off, so they were adjusted.
After taking it home, I noticed a slight clunking sound from the front end when the car was parked in the garage, and I turned the steering wheel left to right. Hadn't noticed it before the alignment was done. Traced the noise to the inner locking nut on the left control arm. Took it back, and they tightened it. Brought it home, and noticed it again to a lesser degree on the right... same retightening done. They said bring it in for re-alignment as the tightening may have changed things & when I did, they called and said the nuts were loose again! I had only driven the car 20 miles since the last time it was tightened. Can't believe it.... would seem like such a simple procedure & I gave them the Bentley manual to follow....
Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on here?? I thought maybe the threads on the control arms were shot or got ruined, but how could it have affected both right and left sides???
Any comments?
regards,
jlex.

jlex,

I am a bit confused by your descrition of a noise from the front end, but loose nuts & bolts that sound like rear trailing arm problems!

If it is the adjustment bolts on the rear trailing arms, the answer is that they were NOT torqued to the proper spec!!! I have done adjustments on my cars' trailing arms several times, and they never came loose! However, I do double-check the bolts after each wheel alignment, especially from a shop, and I recommend everyone else do the same!

IMHO, find a good line up shop that already knows about Porsches. I would be scared to death of a place where I had to take in the reference material.
